In the History of the Ovation Guitar by Walter Carter, I quote from page 40, top right:

Some production problems lingered on for years. "We had alot of trouble doing good fret work" (Jim) Rickard said. All the frets came up on the ends. So we developed a system of epoxying the frets in. We didn't tell people, because can you imagine any body gluing the frets in? If you heat them up they come right out. But we went through this process, which made the guitars very playable."

Gluing in frets is common practice today with a super glue type product, but it is normally NOT used in production, but in repairs and custom fretwork.

Currently I believe the Applause, Celebrity's and Hartford born O's DO NOT use any glued in frets...

Anyone know when and which Guitars were glued in, as referenced in the above quote???

Abendicum,
Go to my photo gallery. I have pictures of the glue being applied to the fret board before the frets are installed.
