1-The Christmas Story with Ralphie and the Red Ryder...........!
2-A Christmas Carol.............a timeless Dickens that will be shown 100 years from now I am sure!
Well........probably my last post until after Christmas unless I find a PC to write from.......on the road tomorrow after delivering Christmas presents to less fortunate kids in our community.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL! :D |

Al- Cynical isn't bad. People tend to tell me that I come across as sarcastic, jaded and/or cynical. My standard reply is, 'You're wrong, I'm just more experienced than you. Give yourself some time.' YMMV. |

Still have great relations with them but it is not the same as when you can swing them through the air, give piggy-back rides, go to the zoo, etc., etc.
I am sure that most of you know what I am talking about! |

Location: the BIG Metropolis of TR | "A Christmas Story" is my favorite because it reminds me so much of when I was growing up (same time period - same memories) I've loved that movie since the 1st time I saw it.....long before it became a "classic" and stations like TBS started showing it for 24 hours straight!!
I also like the old "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" My favorite line in the show is near the end when Yukon Cornelious is asked how he and the Abominable snowbeast survied the fall over the cliff he says......'Bumbles Bounce!!!'
cracks me up every time :D
Two other that are fast becoming my "favorites" are "Scrooged" w/Bill Murray and "How the Grinch stole Christmas" w/Jim Carey

that was called "the snowman" I played that for the kids I taught in school for many years. It is an absolute brillant animated work and no matter how big and bad the kid was there was not a dry eye in the class when it was over.
can I change my vote? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | "Santabear's First Christmas". It's not really what you would call "animated". It's just still photos from the childrens book of the same name. The photos fade in/out. The narration, reading of the story, is done by actress Kelly McGinnis who has a wonderful tone for this kind of reading. And the musical soundtrack is solo acoustic guitar by the late Michael Hedges. This is really a great one. It's about a 20 minute DVD. If you buy the soundtrack (Windham Hill), that's even better. Of course it does not have the photos from the book. But it conists of two tracks. The first is the whole story told by Kelly and music by Hedges. The second track is the same thing with out the narration. Dave |

Location: NJ | Wow! . . you guys've already hit on a lot of my faves . . .
"The Snowman" WAS a good one! (I hope my daughter still has that one somewhere . . .) I seem to remember there was another one done by the same artist/animator that had to do with a tree.
Yeah Dave, the Hedges/McGillis "SantaBear" was great! I used to have that one on LP when it first came out (story on one side - music on the other). Windham Hill also did a nice version of the "Velveteen Rabbitt" (which did touch on Christmas) with Meryl Streep and George Winston.
I've always seemded to have an affinity for the various versions of Dickens' "Christmas Carol", from the old Mr. Magoo version to the Bill Murray adaptation in "Scrooged". They did a made-for-TV version some years ago with George C. Scott that was quite good. My fave though has to be the old, original b&w version (I forget the actor's name). I particularly like the part where Scrooge wakes up in the morning acting like a madman and freaks out the biddy old housekeeper . . .
"Mixed Nuts" (Steve Martin) is a good one as well. |

For me, that one has it all; comedy, nostalga, love of family and the pains of growing up. I especially love how the old man, who appears detached and somewhat a buffoon throughout (frageelay!), really comes through and is the hero in the end. That part gets me everytime.

Wasn't "The Homecoming" the pilot for "The Waltons"?
Or was the actor who played "JohnBoy"in it?
(For some reason, that title makes some kind of "Waltons" connection in my mind . . |

This was an Old man who just found out he didn't have much time left and he had been a ass for years... He finds his x wife and they call all the kids to show up...
Modern day 1975 /1980...
It doesn't fit everyone... It just reminds me of my Dad. Ed Asner plays a good roll. It is kind of sappy |
