Location: Minden, Nebraska | Anybody here with the eBay user name of The Trawler? I see bids on Ovations consistently, and bid against him/her fairly often. 'bout time I know if this is someone from the club here. Anybody know or want to come out? |

It would just be helpful to me to know whether or not I am bidding against an OFC 'friend'. |

And that could be you.... |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Paul, i recently sold Trawler a guitar which he made me promise i would not tell which.Anyway, he is very private and in my conversation would never tell me what guitars he actually owned.Very different from other guitar collectors. He simply did not want to talk about or reveal any of his guitars. He talked endlessly about every other hobby he had but would not talk about his collection. As far as i know he does not hang out here on the OFC,though he may have visited before. |

That is both interesting and strange....
This isn't something I NEED to know. FWIW, as a general rule I won't bid against someone I know from the OFC. In the exceptional cases I usually email and explain. If it turns out The Trawler is someone who frequents the board, I will be more circumspect in bidding on auctions he found first.
On the other hand, there is one person Sam and I have both dealt with that I will almost always bid against as a matter of principle. :D |

There are some memories I have successfully repressed....lol. No, I am not really sure unless it has to do with the aforementioned unnamed individual. |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | Yup... that's the one. We parted ways under less than cheerful circumstances a couple of years ago.
I still don't know who The Trawler is, but am not going to lose sleep over the identity if it isn't a matter of importance among the OFC 'family'.
On a side note, I almost always issue a 'courtesy bid' on any auctions by Sam or Al that I see. Being what Al calls a 'bottom feeder' I usually expect to be outbid. I get some courtesy emails from other OFC guys from time to time when outbidding me, but most on this board who know me know I don't mind being outbid by someone who really wants an item more than I do. |

you should wear that moniker of bottom feeder as a badge of honor |

Location: Upper Left USA | I agree that if someone really wants something - they should bid - no matter who else is bidding.
More often, I'll have an intention on coming in low just in case it doesn't hit a high number. I try to check if an OFCer is involved and then try to see what their intent is. I wouldn't want to bump their bid up just because I can.
I have respect for the OFCer that posts a "MINE!!" and follows through to the end, much like the man of steel, PI did on an instrument he really, really wanted. Then you can sit back and enjoy his chase! |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | Paul, i can tell you that the trawler is not SL,although it crossed my mind before he contacted me and we spoke on the phone. As far as bidding,i generally get out of the way on OFC bidders unless its Alpep bidding on an adamas 1,then i go after it not because i want it but just "to piss him off". |

Oh,by the way, If I really want something on ebay stand back, I'm bidding away,no matter what! (Just kidding) Forgot to add I'm not the Trawler altough I've wondered who he is? |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | Steve - I think you just have to hang out here long enough to start to know who is who on eBay (I'm roundback).
Some of us have been running into each other for years, so there is a familiarity (that breeds contempt??). Why is it so much fun to tweak Al?
Sam - I never suspected The Trawler as being SL. Not aggressive enough and too much positive feedback, lol.
MWoody - huh? That one went by me. |

You go to check their feedback and they have purchased all this items that sell for less than $5.....so with 30 positives they have spent less than $100.
Then suddenly they have a $1500-2500 guitar for sale. Those scare me more than new ebayers with no feedback.

Any system is subject to being defeated if the intent of the person is bad.
My biggest problem with the Power Sellers is my lack of Patience. I can understand why they only package and ship on a certain day of the week but I want communication and results now!
Sold a Pacemaker to a Green Buyer - no problem. Sold a set of trinkets to some guy that I believed died before payment was made. How do I give feedback on that one? |
