Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | I remember about a year after I got my Adamas, this lady who worked with me at church got a blue cutaway Adamas 2. I think she got it in 1983. I also remember the guitar had a huge round neck, and was very uncomfortable to play. I hope the neck on the reissue is thinner. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I'm sorry, but to me the single sided epaulet with the goofy pickguard area just looks bad. If the single sided epaulet is supposed to make it sound so much better, why not go ahead and put an epaulet on the treble side as well, but don't actually make the holes - just leave solid black soundboard where the holes would be. That way it could sound good AND look good. Some people will disagree with me, that's life. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I myself am not fond of the single-sided epaulet, either. I doubt that it makes THAT much difference in the sound, but it doesn't look "balanced" to me. The cutaway throws the balance of the appearance off, and removing the lower bout epaulet completely blows it for me.
They completely removed the lower bout epaulet on the Adamas Melissa Etheridge 12-string this year, and it made me glad I bought a 2001 model.

Location: SoCal | Exactly right Roger. More bass and less treble. You know I've got a 1537 Elite. For the last week I've had a 87 Collectors in my house (going to it's new owners today). I thought the sound would be the same. It's not. With the reduced number of soundholes on the treble side, it's got a lot more bass than my 1537. The reduced number of soundholes does make a difference. |

I eagerly purchased this year's model from Al, and I think it is sonically tremendous compared to the old Melissa 12 string. It's SO much fuller sounding (IMHO) now, and much more alive. Not only did they make it one epaulet, but they changed the bracing and gave it some of the LX features as well. I am VERY happy with it. To me, they got it right this time.
Frankly, I've stopped caring about looks of a guitar...I just want a guitar that I can rely on, that delivers, consistenly, the sound I hear in my head (or as close as possible) and that's comfortable to play during gigs. I have that now, and it's inspiring. To me, it's looks are just fine with one epaulet, and the sound just rocks.

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | I'm a non symmetrical guy so I'm fine with the looks. I own a 1598 Melissa Etheridge 12 string Adamas. I also happen to own a roll of duct tape. I'll play around a little bit and close off the treble holes and check out the difference in sound.

Location: Nova Scotia, Canada | Keep in mind that it is a reissue of the old Adamas II cutaway and that's the way they were. Since they are offering the Slothead and Adamas reissues in non-cut, double epi it only makes sense to make this configuration available with the II model.

Location: Asheville, North Carolina | I could understand removing the holes from the treble side of the Adamas carbon/wood laminates if indeed it helps balance the tone a bit...I've always thought they were overly bright guitars as compared to the wood topped Ovations. I however prefer the balanced look of Epaulets on bass and treble areas. Gives the guitar a more elite look IMO. But looks are just a small part when it comes to making music. But you can keep the funny looking pickguard...I'm wondering how many folks strum or pick way up by the cutaway? :rolleyes: |
