I bought myself a Jim Croce cd/dvd collection and told SWMBO that somebody could give it to me for Christmas, but she put it in the CD changer. I'll have to do that with a guitar and see if it works the same.

At the risk of sounding too damn preachy to live, we (my wife, kids and I) are foregoing Christmas presents (and believe me - I loooove Christmas presents) in order to contribute to getting clean water to people who don't have it. I'm not gonna promote anything specific on the board. If you're interested, PM me.

Doing one's living room on a smallish budget makes for really big celebrations whenever something is acquired. The living room rug is down, the mini-blinds were hung up by my son, so the next goal is curtains. And, hopefully, they'll be up by Christmas, when family is coming to visit.
(I know, that's not real exciting, but little by little the room is getting finished.)
And...Trader...you already are a diamond; you may not see or realize it, but those who have eyes to see already do.

Not for me... But I just bought my Mom a Eureka Upright Cyber-Monday Vacuum Cleaner for Christmas!

She wanted it, and was on the phone while I ordered it (before anybody tells me what a jerk I am)

She lives in Tennessee, so it will go straight to her doorstep.

Well, the wife has been really good to me this year. I picked up my Legend and it will act as my Bday present (a week before Christmas) and she has let me pick out a new lens for my camera for Christmas. I am a camera nut also, my new canon 70-200 2.8IS :

I was on the field at Ravens Stadium and they have it. Very convincing as a "natural- feel" surface. Extremely comfortable.

Nice lens. I have a Nikon 80-200 2.8 That I bought back in 1990. I wish it had the tripod mount.

Better go with a EA Viper or thin-bodied VXT, Mark. You'll have better luck squeezing it into the changer.

You know, it's funny but this year I really don't have anything significant on my wish list. I keep thinking about stuff that the kids would like and/or need.

My son needs a new violin, as he has outgrown his 7/8 size a year ago. I'd love to get him a decent one, not a $500 music store student grade but a $2k or so master shop instrument. My girls both have GAS real bad for a textured top ADAMAS. They and their friends are always having impromptu jams in the music room or the living room. Having an A to pass around would be fun.

If we're going down the financial drain, might as well do it with the best musical instruments in hand!

My real xmas present is that for the 24th year in a row my wife, myself and both children will be together at xmas. In a world of failed marriages, estranged children, terminal deseases, long distance relocations and all kinds of other stuff I think this is a pretty significant gift for which I am very grateful.

Nice, Dave. I really hadn't thought about it, but I think we've spent every Christmas with the kids since they were born. This one will be a bit more expensive, since my daughter moved to California and I didn't trust her old Ford to make it, so I bought "myself" a new VW and gave it to her. My father in law used to worry every time we took a trip in the old junkers we used to have. Now I know why. I just gave myself a lot more sleep.

Way to GO! I was actually conversing with him about buying it with the good intentions of maybe one day letting it go your way but then he told me that it was sold (cash being king and I was working a trade).

Glad to see it headed your way and I hope it sounds every bit as good as advertised!

Well said, Dave. That really would be a gift. My son is in San Diego and my daughter is in Boston. The three of us haven't been together on Christmas morning (or anytime during the holidays for that matter) in at least 15 years, nor does it appear likely to happen in the future, either.

I'm gettin' nuttin' fer Christmas.....

Mainly cos' I got too much stuff already.
We're trying to get some of the clutter out of our lives.
But I'm busy making dust in the workshop for younger peoples presents.

Besides; I already got all the present I need in Dvd's former Reso guitar.....almost sounds like a banjo when you pluck it right. Haven't tried it with the old metal finger picks yet....

You guys have nailed it. I have one in grad school and one in undergrad. We are fortunate to see them on breaks and in the summer but that is changing this year and probably will be moreso in the future. We had them home for Thanksgiving and took Friday off and went to the Detroit institute of arts, science center and a movie. Just like old times. I really cherished it knowing that days like that will be dwindling in the future. Truley it was a great gift for me. It makes all the material stuff look insignificant. I hope you all get what you really need for Christmas and not necessarily what we want. What a bunch of sappy middle aged men we have turned out to be :)

Already got my Xmas present (well, one of them). I had an ITouch that I got a year ago. It was stolen and I bought the latest one (hundred bucks cheaper, slimmer, and more features). Realized I wasn't really using it and gave it to my son who wanted it for a birthday present.

My wife just got me a 16 gig IPod. Perfect for me. All the features I want and none of the ones I never use.

I'm also having my old, POS 78 Legend rebuilt with a new body (cloth bowl, A bracing, AAA spruce top, no electronics, and a bone saddle and nut). So I guess that's a present to me from me.

But when I get the final cost on it, I'm going to sell my Preacher 12 string, so watch this space for a great guitar for sale.......

On December 29th or 30th I'm going to buy myself a full tank of gas and head back below the Mason Dixon line. Best present I can get myself.

Beal, thars a Song in there somewhere!

+1 to Dave's comment except I meet some of the other criteria. Shoot, that should make it twice as good then!

My present to us is I have prepared finances so that my Wife doesn't HAVE TO work! Now she can volunteer and pursue what she likes to do. That and a Daughters wedding in June gives us some great excuses not to overspend and just enjoy each other.

Craig, it takes up less space in the case.

Of course Paul will get tamale sauce stains on it, and you do have to iron it occasionally...

If you heard the guitar as it was originally, you'd cringe. Horrible sound.

Cloth bowl = Hand laid fiberglass bowl = masturbatory bowl......

Karl, in Germany did the same sort of thing with a Deluxe Balladeer that I sold him about 3 years ago. According to him, it turned out great!

A week off from the relentless need to work for a living and a trip to MWoody's neck of the woods to just sit and relax on the shores of the Puget Sound with the love of my life and partner for 17 years and our beloved dog.

Enjoy, Greg. Sorry I didn't get to your neck of the woods last week. We stayed on the west side the whole time.

I had no plans to buy myself a Christmas gift. It's been a great run this 'O' year. But wait, uh oh, what's that I see over yonder... ?

It's one of those proto PF-22s that I didn't pull the trigger on when Miles had 'em on here.

Well the trigger finger has been honed
And Woody's PF bass is my own

And to all a good night...

Iffy - at least you and Damon are at opposite corners of the country or one side might start sinking from all of the gits!

Got Mine...

Black Cherry Burst always looks like crap in any online photos.
It looks better in Real Life. Even these photos suck.
The best representation of the color is the one in the case.

Just wanted to Share (Brag)

[BTW- My 1771-CG is on eBarf for $270 if anyone needs a Christmas Present.]

There are advantages to a crappy economy.

Sorta sad... The guy that I just got the Ultra from isn't a regular eStore, and he thanked me cuz I just helped him pay rent on his brick-and-mortar store.

I stopped in Apple Music yesterday... I was there for about an Hour and I was the only one in the store who didn't work there!

Bob, I got one of those off that store too for a ridiculous low bid also. One of, if not THE best sounding O's I've played IMHO. Nice grab.

For Christmas (as if I need an excuse) I got one of those Blueridge guitars everyone on the Martin forum is talking about. A BR343, which is an OM size. All solid, spruce top with mahog back and sides. Really is everything they say, and cheap too.

That sunburst on the back is pretty interesting. You don't see that very often ...

But the first thing that came to mind was ... (in a Lee Iacocca voice) ... "Buy an Audi, Get a Guitar!". ;)

I got a chance to play a bunch of different Blueridge models in Gruhn's. Nicely done, but the bling on them always seemed a bit much to me.

Thanks. If "Perfidia" means perfect, it's not. The dings and scratches don't show up in this photo. But it's all original. More Mosrite photos.

Mark, that's a Newport Pro , not the Echotone. It is smaller than a 335 style.

I was looking at the Artist and the Newport, and found several for a very reasonable price on the HamerFanClub. The Artist is a solid body with the top half chambered. The Newport is a more traditional semi-hollow construction but, like the Artist, a lot smaller than the 335.

There was a seriously beautiful Artist with a flame maple top that caught my eye, but someone from here beat me to the punch. He has pics up over on the NING side.

My girls looked at the 3 natural wood topped acoustics hanging in the music room and decided that "we" don't want another natural top, and "we" have too many black or red guitars, so "we" decided to go for the orange sparkle Newport.

It is on the way, hopefully here for this weekend. I'll post pics and a review once I've given it a workout.

BTW, Kaki plays several Newports. Hamer really oughta make her an endorsee. Now I'm going to sound just like her, right?

Well, I don't have a new guitar; but the living room curtains are bought, ironed, and up--so, for a Christmas gift to me, I ordered the 30" matching rug that will be a perfect fit for my overwhelmingly huge 39" x 35" "foyer."
My living room is kinda like that Cadillac Johnny Cash used to sing about--"one piece at a time" (the difference being mine is legitimately acquired.) :D

OK gang, I'M the one who got an Echotone. Yes, it's Korean, but it's a beauty. I wound up selling the Ibanez AF85 that I had gotten a few months ago. Then a guy from Rapid City came in with another one to sell on consignment. Well the same guy who bought my Ibanez also bought this one. (He said he'd been looking for a guitar like that all his life and wanted a second one for a back-up.) So when the guy from Rapid came down to pick up his money, he also brought the Echotone. I bought it on the spot. It has a nice thin neck, beautiful tone, it's well balanced, and THIS one I'm going to keep. As most of you know, I can't post pictures, but it's a sunburst, and hasn't a mark on it. A good friend has a Conn C series from the sixties that he swears is the best guitar ever made. Supposedly it is an EXACT copy of a Gibson 335, right down to the pick-ups. Well, we did a side by side comparison, and the Hamer sounds better, at least to my ears. Merry Christmas to me. (And to all of you too!)

Wow, you guys are getting some nice gits. I wish I could but don't have the scratch or the space for another.

I think what I will get is another stomp box, like a compressor or an exciter and maybe one of those compilations from Dylan's radio show.

Adamas W598

Adamas II 1681

The W598 was about what expected balanced full warm 12 string.
Adamas II 1681 just blew me away.
Big HUGE sound. Possibly the best sounding acoustic I ever played.

Great minds think alike. I made the same offer Stonebobbo did and bought one just like it. His mind is greater than mine, though. He knows how to post a picture of it, so I don't have to. I wonder if that's a picture of his or mine.

They just listed another one. I could swear it said "1 available" when I bid on mine, but maybe that was after they accepted the offer. I'll be lucky if it gets here by Christmas.

Pez,
The 1681 IS a great sounding and looking guitar, as I'm sure Beggin and Music would agree as they both bought one off of me. Now, why did I sell them again?

Bob and Mark,
I can't say enough about that Balladeer. As Dave once said about his, the sound just jumps out of it. Easy player too.

Damon, you're way ahead of me on the digital gadgets. Nothing digital about the AC30. I'll run it with my simple electric pedal board. I'm curious how it will compare against all the old Fenders I've got stacked up against the band wall. May need to start unloading some gear someday.

I think I'm gonna get me the acoustical treatments I've been wanting for my music room. Bass traps for the corners and some high frequency absorbers for the reflextion spots, and diffusors for the rear wall. I was fortunate to get alot of OT at work as we get pretty busy at years end. It's going to run around 2 g's.

bass traps

diffusors

Well since I have to wait on the tank of gas I picked up a few little items to hold me over. There's a new acoustic I've been playing ever since I got it and the Hamer Jazzadega from Al. Now that guitar is real pretty and I may be able to get used to the skinny neck again! I may put a Fishman power bridge on it to add a little acousticness to the tone.
And I got one of the Tak direct boxes that has a boost button, most useful for the LadyFish, and the little Olympus digital recorder that came with africkin 60 page manual on how to work it. That's only the english version. I hate that!!
We got each other the previously mentioned sleigh ride and then I'm getting that tank of gas. I may ever spring for 93 octane, treat the Rock, the heartbeat of America, to a little Christmas spirit as well.

Got some sound reinforcement.... Ion Block Rocker.
Battery powered, 22 Watts, 7"speaker + Tweeter, with luggage wheels. Mic/Guitar in, Guitar in, IPOD dock, RCA in..... not a Peavy Stack but just a little extra help should I give up my straight job and go street musician.

That'd be the markings from the Schallers. ;) Back from the time when there was a wall to keep the Western types from moving into the utopia that was the Democratic Republic of Germany. I think the wall got torn down during a Roger Waters concert.
