On 11/13/04 my Model 1111-1 1971-72 Ovation was completely destroyed. The doer of the deed went to jail. I purchased the guitar new in 1972. This was a beautiful guitar and the sound seemed to improve and become richer with age. Well, It's gone. I can buy a new ovation at costco for around $285.00. The guitar sounds fine but, it's just not the same; probably take another 30 years to get that really rich, mellow, full bodied tone my 72 had. Any Ideas out there about how much I would have to spend to get another 1971-72 Sunburst Ballader?

I have the same guitar sitting in my living room that I bought about the same time. I know what your feeling brother.
That Balladeer was my only acoustic till about 6 months ago. I wanted something that I could plug in that was at least the equal of my aged Balladeer. I wound up with an Al DiMeola Custom Legend. None of the current "lesser" Ovation models came close to the feel and sound to my Balladeer.
It will cost a few bucks, but look for a regular Custom Legend or a 30th anniversery model. I don't think you would be happy with less.
.
Welcome to the OFC, sorry you have to start out with a sad story.

Sorry to hear!

An early Balladeer of of Ebay can go $200-$350 depending on timing, wind velocity and condition.

They do show up frequently. Stay out of Costco and pick up a USA made model used.

Many Members offer good, reliable deals - so don't kiss the first Frog that jumps!

Look around this site and get an idea of what's out there.

Welcome.

There are usually vintage 1111's available on FleaBay, with some regularity. I know, it's not the same; bluntly, it never will be. A leap of faith is required here. Financially, you can get into another old Balladeer probably a lot cheaper than a new Custom Legend. A good set-up won't cost that much, either.
I always hated the ingenuine way Billy Boob said it, but "I feel your pain"..... and I mean it.

Welcome! and "Sorry for Your Loss"

What Woody and SeeSquare said . . .

Nose around here and on eBay.

For you'll spend in Costco (oy!) you should be able to pick up a good, used USA model (with a bit o' "character" . . .

Keep your eyes open, and check back here often.

Again, welcome!
