If you look at the close up of the body you can see an off colored section surrounding the right side leaf pattern. |

Location: NJ | It's a "pickguard" (of sorts).
It's a masked-off area that's been clear-coated to offer the textured top some protection from errant strumming.
I guess they tend to "yellow" over time. . . .
I've been lucky with mine thusfar, I guess. |

Location: SoCal | This sure looks like the same guitar that closed last week where the seller clearly said no international bidders, even wrote me to verify where I lived. Appeared that a serious bidder from Belgium backed out. Then, spider comes in at end and is high bidder.
Strange that seller wouldn't have offered the next two highest bidders a "2nd offer." I had been outbid by a US bidder so obviously he/she should have been given 1st option. |

Does this also happen with the 597's? |

I think this was only done on the "older" Adamases. Someone else'd probably be more well-versed than I. It could be that it's just more noticeable on the blue. . .
I just just checked the gallery pic of mine and it IS definitely noticeable. Doesn't seem that prevalant "in person". Could be that the flash accentuates it . . |

| Yeah I have an older Adamas as well as a slightly newer model. They both have this pick guard material and neither of mine have yellowed? So I would say it is a trick of the camera. Nice guitars, I gotta say, I always, always! get comments about them when I am out.

And, can't be repaired. Nope, really makes this a guitar to stay away from...

| Tony I emailed the guy selling that Adamas told him I'd give him $3,000 if he would end the auction!
Actually I was interested in another photo? He said this is real close to the color it is? If that's a #7 which was called Beige, and it did come with a nice blue center color this one is big time faded. I find this strange? Do these fade? I have not seen this in other Ovations or finishes? At least nothing quite this drastic! These Adamas's are strange! It seems Ebay does not have any for many months then foolishly they seem to run two or three at a time? I would think this would make for lower prices.

Location: Australia | As a point of interest. My 1687 special ordered in 2002 doesn't have the puddle of poly pickguard at all. In fact the top has a very flat finish where as my 1996 models top had a "pickguard" and more of a sheen to the top.
I prefer my 2002 top( and the ebony fretboard). |

Side by side, the 1987 #1687, the 2003 custom #1688, and the Adamas II - all are 7's...the 1687 is definately less defined in the center.
However, if fading I would think that it wouldn't be as even around the bridge or epaulets. |
