Hello from South Florida.
I have a question that hopefully you guys can help me out in.
I've been GAS'ing for an Ovation for quite some time. Today I walked in to a local music store (not GC  ) and checked out a 2001 Collector's Edition. This guitar has been with them for 3 years, hanging on the wall, collecting dust.

The guitar is gorgeous, with a flamed redwood top, it's stunning. Plays excellent with low action. The manager told me he would let it go for $1,000 with the case.

My question to you guys is this...
Is this a fair price for this guitar?
It is "new", but it also has been on the wall for quite some time.

What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Elf, it is a great guitar.

Before you buy it, suggest checking with Al (Alpep@aol.com) - got mine from Al along with others. He is one of the two sponsors of the OFC, see Lost Art/Vintage Instruments on the left hand side of this screen.

Would definitely be worth your effort.

Eyes ...

Just curious, is it a roundhole or a multi-hole with epaulets?

Others on this board have a lot of good things to say about the guitar, especially soundwise.

The big question is, do you really like it and does it make you want to play all day? If so, it's a pretty good deal. The list price on the guitar was $1899 including the case. You might be able to find a used one a little cheaper, but this one would come with the lifetime factory warranty, which is a nice thing to have.

And like Tony suggested, check with Al. He'll steer you right.

Thanks guys!
It's the multi hole one.
It does play excellent, I checked Tonys website and he has two used ones listed, a 2001 & 2002, both for $850.00.

Would the one I am looking at be considered new? NOS maybe? It has been there for 3 years...
Would I still get the warranty???
I will ask them on Monday, they are an Ovation deqaler.

Greetings to a south Floridian from a south Floridian.

The price is pretty good. Check the guitar over closely for things like - battery corroded in it, dings, dents, etc etc - remember to check up at the headstock too. Three years can take its toll.

Check it out and offer less without insulting the guy telling him you've seen newer ones going for $850. If it has been sitting there for three years gathering dust odds are in your favor he just might take it. But like everyone said check it out and then nmake a low ball offer. First price quote is not neccesarily what he is willing to sell it for. Play On!

I'm guessing at this.. but you aren't going to find "newer" ones.. they were all made in 2001. If it is new, it is new. Hanging on the wall 3 years is still new if it has never been sold.

Thanks for all the welcomes, and of course, the great help.
I'm going to try to lowball him even more.
What I failed to mention is that he originaly offered it to me for $1200.00, I was able to bring him down to $1000.00.
Now thinking about it, I'm going to try to shave off a little more ;) . But even if he doesn't go for it I think I'm still going to bite the bullet.

When I get it, I'll post picts if you like.

Thanks again, you guys have been a tremendus help.
Hope you don't mind me sticking my head in here more often. :D

Elf,

I got my 2001 (multihole) from Al and it is, without a doubt, the most stunning guitar I have ever played, both in appearance and tonality... If you can't make the deal you're after, BUY FROM AL! In spite of everything else, Al is a gem! :D

I'm with Cliff on the buy it recommendation. Quibling over $150 is silly if you like the guitar that much. Buying a new USA built Ovation, a collectors to boot, for a grand, with a full warranty, that rings your chimes, is cheap. Go for it. And post pics.

EYES:

Al has two 2001 Collector's: one with center soundhole, the other with multi -- and the price is better. Check him out.
