Location: Omaha | I've had my new L777-5 legend for about a week now and am loving it; it looks great sounds great plugged in, and, I believe will sound great as the top "breaks in." Very nice guitar; I'm very pleased...already put it through the first test at worship team practice the other night; performed well (and LOVE the tuner; how'd I ever live without one of those right on the guitar: "Hey, anyone seen my tuner...")
But I can't keep the top clean!!! Not fingerprints, really, but I'm finding there are a couple spots were the gloss finish doesn't shine up - it's a little dull.
(One spot is on the edge of the soundhole & rosette where there was something in the finish, so the sales guy at the store took it back in the shop and used some stuff that he "swore by" to get the speck out of the finish; got it out, but the finish is now dull there!)
So far I've tried Dunlop Formula 65 polish/cleaner with a microfiber cloth; I'll also try the Dunlop wax (green bottle) when I get home tonight.
Do I need to have the top rebuffed in order to get it consistent all over?
Other than that, great guitar (just wonder if I shoulda waited for a lefty LX...no...don't think about that!). I'll have to lower the nut slots a little, but other than that, I'm a happy camper.

Location: Omaha | Yes! They do seem to all be right around the bridge,and the case has a concave "indent" for the bridge, but all around it the top of the case is pressing against the top of the guitar.
Suggestions? (Maybe a large cloth on top of the guitar; kinda like a Les Paul case has?) |

Location: Tennessee | I recently started using the Fender kit made by Maguiers ... and it is great stuff. Swirl and Haze Remover, followed by Polish and Conditioner, and a final coat of Mist and Shine. It did wonders for some older guitars, and I imagine it would do a very nice finish on your black legend.
And yup, it's the same Maguiers folks who make the polish I've been using on Italian and German sports cars for years ... errr ... decades.
I still have some Dunlop 65 which is nice for a quick dust & grime removal, but the Maguiers did a fantastic job bringing an old finish back to near new. |

Location: Minden, Nebraska | Meguiar's #9 is really good stuff for shining up dull haze spots. Get it at Auto Zone. Guitar guys have been using their products for years, and Fender finally caught on. You can buy it with the Fender name and pay a lot more for less! |

Location: Phoenix, AZ | Paul, Meguiar's No. 9 is their Swirl Remover. It is a cleaner/polish. The cleaner "part" will remove, ever so slightly, the existing finish. Are you sure you don't mean No. 7, their Show Car Glaze? It is a straight premium polish. It will not remove any of the existing finish.
P.S. Most of the Fender guys recommend No. 7. Rumor has it that No. 7 is the base for the guitar polish. |

Location: Omaha | Thanks for the tips so far...and I'll wait to try the Meguiare's until you guys confirm whether I should use #7 or #9...
The Dunlop wax/polish (green bottle) seemed to be okay, but it left the top just slightly "hazy" all over, and more prone, it seems, to arm and fingerprints. Typical of some waxes, I guess. |
