Location: south east Michigan | Tonight OFC member Brian T and I will do our second open mic. We'll play:
Mrs. Brown / Hermans Hermits
Crazy Love / Van Morrison
Happy Together / The Turtles
I know that many on this board have a long history of performing for people. To some it's "just another gig". I just wanted to post my experience in the hope that it would encourage others to get their music out of the living room.
About 6 months ago Woody posted about how music is meant to be shared. That idea sunk in for me. It has enabled me to become a better player. It's great to take an couple songs and work them until it's the best you can do. |

I just got word that the "group" I play with for the Convalescent Circuit has booked two more Gigs (one a continuing monthly slot). There's nothing better for honing your skills than playing "live" and dodging the tomatoes!  :D |

Brad, good luck with your gig. Give us a report afterwards. Don't forget to tell the audience what kind of guitar you play. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Hey Brad - Didn't you mean to post your set list under the thread of "Most Hated Songs" ??? Just kidding. From one who rarely strays away from the mirror (remember that song "Mirror Star" by the Fabulous Poodles?), I admire anyone who gets up in front of a crowd. There is a place near me that does an open mike every Wednesday and the admission fee is to bring a canned food for the needy. I want to perform, but I am hesitent to play in front of a group of people with cans of Green Giant corn Campbells Tomato soup in their hands. |

Location: south east Michigan | It went well. We recieved some nice comments on our choice of songs and learned a few things.
1) Get settled in before we start.
2) Don't have to rush.
3) Keep the energy up.
4) Go up early. |

The very worst time I ever had on stage was the very first time. I walked away thinking that, first, it's couldn't have been much worse, and second, if the first thought was true, then it's gotta get better. And it has. I've gone from expecting that the audience wants it to be perfect to knowing that the audience is rooting for me.
Playing in front of people is a wonderful thing. |

Location: Upper Left USA | Its one thing to face a crowd and perform but when your buddy's start quoting you it is humbling as well! Share, grow, learn, push the envelope and find your purpose!
I have had a great year of stepping out and with it came ups and downs. On the plus side I can see where youths and adults were encouraged and any small effort on my part has now blossomed through the efforts of others. It can be contagious.
I would like to thank my Grandfather and his three song banjo meddly for inspiration and joy while I was impressionable!
Dave! Just do it! Do it the first chance you have this week. Pick something simple and just let it happen. Go. Be. Do. |
