Location: Iowa | I've noticed that some Ovations have a differently colored bowl, notably brown. Why is that, and what models/years feature it? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | From mid-70's until ??? many of the USA models with natural tops had brown bowls. Black and sunburst tops always had black bowls. All imports had black bowls. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | That's what I said - sunburst sometimes is black bowl (ha ha). Actually I think the correct rule of thumb is that black guitars get black bowls. Moody had proven that one or the other (brown or black bowl) was sonically superior, but I forget which one. It also had something to do with chrome vs. gold jack washers. |

heck, my dark sunburst 1658 bowl is more brown that the natural 1658's brown bowl. |
