Location: Toronto | I seem to find very little information about Adamas guitars. I'm interested in acquiring an Adamas I 1688 (I like the carvings). The Adamas II 1685 looks nice as well and may be interesting to hunt down as well - but information about either seems to be scattered about the ether.
What's frustrating to me is that the Ovation website doesn't seem to keep adamas history there. The Adamas website only has currently available product (I think?). I don't even know if they still product the Adamas II product line? There in lies the frustration!
I've discovered that if I want an Adamas 1, I'll have to have it custom ordered - but there is no place in Toronto that I can find that has ever custom ordered from Ovation - I don't want to be the first, thats for sure! Further, the Kaman distributor for Canada has been less than helpful in this respect.
It seems that the Adamas line is incredible, I find it strange that information about them is soo scattered. Any thoughts? |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | There's a bit of historical information (timelines) on the Adamas website. They no longer make the Adamas with carved bridge and headstock; in any case, the carving was not of wood, but of a synthetic material.
Check Alpep's website; he usually has a lot of old Adamases for sale. Wemedge from Toronto ordered one from him, and didn't seem to have any problem getting it shipped. |

Do you deal with any place inparticular in Ottawa? I usual hit the Nation's Capital a couple times a year... Love those beaver tails!

Location: SoCal | There was a period when the broccoli was formed rather than carved wood. not sure of the years but it was in the 80's. my #1687 Adamas I was made in 1987 and is wood.
I have a #1688 Adamas I 12-str what was custom ordered and delivered 12/03 - beautiful instrument and has the OP-50.
I haven't ordered a "special" or "custom" but I understand it is very easy. I am sure that a regular dealer or our "super" dealer Al would be able to help you and make it a positive experience for you. |

Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada | I don't deal with any store in particular. I recently bought a Martin from Lauzon music; they have a lot of high-end guitars - Martin, Taylor, Gibson, G&L. When I went to try it out they gave me the one I bought (00028-EC) plus another Martin for comparison purposes, sat me down in a sound-proof room, and let me play to my heart's content. Good service, but not cheap.
I have an Adamas on order from Steve's music on Rideau Street; it seems to be taking its sweet time getting here :rolleyes: . Can't say I'm crazy about the service at Steve's; I don't think I'll deal with them again. The reason I ordered from them is that the other Ovation dealer I went to, Long and McQuade, couldn't even find an Adamas price list on their computer (??). |

Location: Toronto | Duncan, I hear ya... I was at L&M here and the same thing - they couldn't get me a price for an elite. Steve's here as well - slow.. I tried getting some Line6 gear from Steve's and ended up cancelling the order...

I saw a few of your other 12 strings in the picture section - do you have a preference, does one stand out from the others?

Location: SoCal | Guess the best all around (of the ones I have) is the 6759 mid-bowl CL (black); yet, all of the CL's are great. Slotheads or standard headstock.
As to CL over the Adamas I - I can't decide. Seems that if I start playing the 6-string Custom Legend, then I go to the 12-str CL; if I start with one of the Adamas 6-stings, I go to the 12-str Adamas. If I start with the Tornado or a jazz box, I go to the electric Preacher Deluxe 12-str.
By the way, best acoustic would be either the GC or the small centerhole 1968 shiney bowl.
I know, got carried away but couldn't help it. Don't get a lot of play but, hanging on the wall in my office/den, they do keep me company and help reduce the stress. |

I was in the same quandry you were in, for an Adamas II. Was very tempted to get an NOS one from Asia, until I talked to Al and after browsing this board and asking questions.
The OFC members were very helpful with their advice, and Al had exactly what I wanted, with the added plus factor of reliability and peace of mind when I ordered.
A few phone calls and emails, and before long I was playing my black Adamas II. Al even included a battery. Hey, my local store doesn't even pitch in a set of cheap strings!
so there you go. Good luck to you and your search.
There is a downside to getting an Adamas, though. I meant to buy only one, but barely a month had passed and I had to get another one, blue this time! Last one, I swear, well, ok, maybe one more. :)
Duncan J, I'm still looking forward to your new Adamas. A vicarious buy for me!
