I'm back from my vacation to down under. There I visited the Maton hompage and began to scratch me behind my ears. hmm, this new guitar from maton was made with the conjunction of josh homme and looks similar to the good ol' gp. just a little difference, the maton is semihollow with 2 f- holes.
so, I wasn't lazy and first started to ask some people of the qotsa board to get some info's. but the only thing I received there was hostility related to my gear ( as if josh has a trademark on this guitar). by the way thanks for shooting back ickygoo.
after this I thought about using my contacts to former and current staff members of maton and I got a funny answer. " the bb1200 is a mixture from the old maton ge500 with the shape of the gp and the pu's of the 2000 series". "hmm" I thought by myself and while I was already in australia I wanted to figure this out. so I visited about 20 music stores from adelaide to sydney. I tried the whole maton family with different amps and found out that I don't like the sound of the 2000series pu's (expect the sd sh4 & sh1) but one pawn shop had this ge500 and this babe was really awesome. unfortunately I ran out of money else this baby'd be mine now. but after all this research I think this must be a good guitar but are there paralells to the mid 80's when ovation kicked their gp off??? when I think about the price of 4000 au$ than it'll also be no guitar for the masses. but let's see and wait, the first will go out at the end of this year
