Location: NC | Question is how high will it go? It's a Ovation Elite LX 1778 that is up to only $305.00 with just over a day left. I may have to bid myself. |

| I agree with moody. Sellers with little or (in this case) no feedback, seldom get decent prices. I wouldn't use a selling price with this type of seller as a pricing guide on any type of product. |

Something does not smell right.
If a deal is to good to be true, it usually is. |

Communicate with seller and get assurance of legitamicy
Use a payment method with "protection"
Get a low enough price
It "might" be ok.
If it is new and they go lower than $1049 it violates MAP and is probably not theirs to begin with!
Look at how the other businesses come across on their auctions. This is a high end product on a Rookie formatted site.
Not me. |

Location: NW NJ | I sent the dude an email with a bunch of questions. Here's a copy of it:
"Questions about your item
Dear dpausch743,
I have a few questions about your guitar. Is it new and therefore comes with warranty? If not new, how long have you owned it and why are you selling? What is the condition of the guitar -- is there any damage, fret wear, cracks, dents, dings, chips, etc. Is ther anything not mint about the guitar? Do you accept PayPal, checks, credit cards, cashier's checks, money orders? How much are your shipping charges including insurance? Lots of questions, but the answers were not included in your listing." Jerk (editorial comment)
Of course he hasn't answered - he probably doesn't know any of the stuff cause the guitar probably doesn't even exist. Sounds like a good way to lose several hundred bux to me. definitely dog crap. |

You are right about feedback and history.......however we all begin somewhere on E-Bay which is "0" rating. If one uses a form of payment that is protected then your covered against the fraud aspect. Who really knows? I will contact the winner to see if they received a great guitar and buy! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Ebay is a double edged sword. Yes, I would prefer to see what I'm buying and also support local dealers, etc. But on the other hand, there are some really nice things that I've obtained from ebay that I never ever in a million years could have found locally. It's also allowed me to sell things at may times more than I could have gotten locally. There may be other on-line methods that are lower rick than ebay, but they don't have the massive selection that ebay has. I've had a few disappointing transactions and luckily have not lost more than maybe $500 total on ebay, but by and large I've been very pleased what what ebay has allowed be to do wrt buying and selling guitars. I do try to support the locals when technically and financially possible. |

I sh!t you not, I just received the EXACT SAME MESSAGE, word for word, from a zero-feedback seller (fdficker445) regarding a new Peavey Limited VT Quilt Top! Unfortunately, he replied to me the day after the auction ended!
And no, I wasn't buying anything new, I was just curious what was going on, as it was a Made in the US Peavey with a $40 start and no reserve. They just don't go for $200 every day, you know? |

The other odd thing (if this deal could get any odder ...) is the next in his message which came before a repeat of my question:

I hope it doesn't stand for Phenergan Unavailable! How will I make it through the winter???
Ahhh, the memories of phenergan syrup with codeine for a bad cough that wouldn't let me sleep...I wish doctors were as cool now as they used to be. |

Location: Rego Park, NY, | I have 2 jobs. I work in a psychiatric hospital and a local privately owned drug store. Unfortunately we have a few customers in the store that use Promethazine/Codeine (Phenergan/Codeine generic) chronically and we cannot get rid of them. Every time they come in for this medicine I have yet to see them cough.
I had Pneumonia 4 years ago. The Phlem I was coughing up came was dark brown. My doctor didn't even prescribe this medicine for me. I talked to the owner of the store and asked him if we could try to get rid of these people. He didn't want to. Profit margin may be the answer.
Anyway, I just wanted Cruster to know that this medicine was still available.

Thanks for that.
I really did have a nasty cough one winter and that is what the doctor prescribed. I had never heard of it. I went home, and after not having slept for several nights, decided that if a teaspoon was good, a tabelspoon was better. I slept extremely well...nodding off about fifteen minutes or so later. When I woke up the next morning, my hair hurt. That was the only time I did that. The next winter, I had a respiratory infection of some sort and the same doctor prescribed the same thing. Worked a charm for quieting the cough, but the technicolor dreams were a bit much. I was really just being silly about PU. :)
FWIW, I've discovered that a nice hot toddy, (mixed as 1/2 coffee cup of good bourbon, 1 tbs. honey, two crushed aspirin, juice of one lemon wedge, topped off with hot water) has the same effect without the hurty hair.

Ultimately I did get the canned email he sent to a few of us. I put a low bid in just to get on the list in case anything came back from eBay after the fact. Lookie what I just got:
"The following is a courtesy notice from eBay Trust & Safety regarding:

Location: NC | I have contacted the winner of the 1st guitar that was auctioned. Have not heard from them yet as to how the auction went. I would assume maybe it could be a co-hort of the seller perpetuating this whole thing by driving up the bid. I also saw the second listing and another non-picture of actual merchandise. This is really going to be a pattern I believe. My understanding the 1st seller has been terminated. |
