Location: Florida | Frances bearing down.... due to pass right over my home. I am not afraid for ME so much as dread losing all I have. I feel like a man on death row, knowing that between me and my God is His intermdediary Jesus Christ. Don't mean to get preachy... but at times like this we only have our faith, because all else is lost to wind and waves and rain...and the savage hell that is to fall upon us.
Nearly 600,000 under mandatory evacuation. Perhaps 750,000 by tomorrow.
We are in deep deep deep doo-doo here folks, and quite frankly, I cannt say for sure if I'm gonna come outta this one without losing nearly everything... its that bad.
I will however have my life... that much I can keep. I can also keep my faith in His Saving Grace and Perfect Will. And I think I can keep my cats alive too. All else... I dont expect to be able to save at all.
Best of luck.. to all those in its path.
Remember us please... we're gonna need MONEY (dont send food, clothes or whatever.. give MONEY to the RED CROSS), we'll need your sweat in the form of workers here, and we'll need your blood, almost quite literally your blood for the injured.
God bless you all... |

Location: Omaha | Our prayers are with you Charlie. You are facing a sobering moment in life. Makes you really think about what matters most. Is there room in the car for family pictures, legal papers, and one or two "irreplacable" guitars?
As you so eloquently stated, God's grace is sufficient for those who trust in him. |

| Encouraging post, Charlie...my parents also live in south florida (miami lakes) and they are waiting to see what direction this storm will go...I lived in south broward in 1992 and at one time hurricane andrew was headed directly for the dade-broward line, but turned south and came ashore by turkey point....but we still lost our power for 10 days...

will pray you make it with everything in tact. Are you in Orlando? I have a close friend down there (Orlando) His name is Jim Joustra. He is District VP of all Wallgreens in the Orlando area.
If you need something Meds, Water, etc. Get in touch with him and tell him you know me. I will email you his phone number.
Will send $ to Red Cross.
Hang in there. I know that's not much consolation....i do know what you're going through. I used to be stationed at Eglin AFB for 4 years. It got pretty dicey at times.......but no way like what's currently coming down the gun barrel

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | Charlie, I know how you feel. Living in south Louisiana hurricane season can be a rough time. Two years ago we had hurricane Lilly. It was a catagory 4 hurricane, but right before it came onto the gulf it went down to a catagory 2. What a mess it was. No electricty for a week, and long lines at Home Depot to get a generator. Where I live is a very wooded area, and broken trees were everywhere. We are praying for you Charlie, and keep us informed if you can as to how you are doing. |

We will keep you in our prayers! My sister and her family live in the Fort Lauderdale area. I was down there a week after Homestead was obliterated some years back, seeing the devastation just sucks the life out of a person. Mother nature has a way of reminding us just how fragile we are :(
Up here in the northland, we just have to worry about going out unprepared and freezing to death
Take care and GOD BLESS! Please stay safe!
You can count on a Red Cross donation from us. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Charlie, our prayers are with you. I'm in IN right now with my wife taking care of her mother while her sister and her husband have vacation in Orlando this week----they are flying back early tomorrow morning, cutting vacation short by two days. But for those of you who live there, there is no "cutting it short" and leaving. God be with you all.

Anxiety causes one of three things: Fight, Flight, or Freeze. Make sure you've evaluated your options and resources carefully. Most successful folks make their own luck. We will pray, however. |

but thanks for the kind words... we're shuttered up, we're hunkered down... and nearly ready to just ride it out.
Folks... there's 2.5 MILLION people in evac. There are three 30 mile long traffic jams - total standstill goin on ... on I75, Turnpike and I95 (so says WFTL radio). |

We are watching and praying and hoping that the monster will die out before it hits land. Good Luck, Florida is just having no luck at all, maybe this one will peter out in the ocean.

I also know that all of us have had prior disasters, and we will have them in the future. Another good read in times like this, is Kipling's If ... |

Storm has subsided to cat-2 may be cat-1 by sunup. Is forcast to be tropical storm (not bad at all, just a bad rainstorm) by the time it goes inland.
Only one person, sadly, lost their life in the Bahamas. So far, its been ok here... a few bad squalls go by then you get clear sky... then squall... but it looks like we're gonna be spared.
More as it comes..... |

My in-laws were part of the big bug-out from Florida today....they're in Marietta, GA tonight, should be far enough to be OK. Probably home here in Indiana tomorrow night.

Three quarters of Palm Beach (we cant)County is without power.
I have power ... dunno how. Outside, the wind is not too bad. Rain is steady-eddy. We're blustery, but thats it... but it won't cease.
The night is dark. Not a light to be seen. Transformers have stopped exploding. So the next one I hear is likely to be the one behind my house.
They're saying power crews will not go out until Monday at the soonest. |

Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida | Hey Charlie B. down here in Ft. Lauderdale, we lost power sometime around midnight Saturday ... Im just east of I-95 . House is shuttered well and 6 boats at my small marina out back are all fine... Wind sounds like a freight train at times and this is coming to you on my emergency 12v battery -> 110v inverter power system... Pretty cool...
Ever see such as big eye in a hurricane before ??? Francis is slowly moving away I see on the online weather radar sites... So we should get some relief later today or tommorrow...
Stay safe, AB |
