Location: Fayetteville, NC | Well This day has turned out to be rather interesting! My Son Corey (who turns 5 in October) started Pre-K today. We dropped him off for his first day at school and within the first hour the teacher informed us he'd already been in time out 4 Times. 4 Times in One Hour! gee I wonder when they're gonna call and beg us to take him home? :D
Seriously, This will be good for him. He'll make lots of friends and learn a little more about structure. when to eat, When to Play, when to watch Cartoons and when to sleep.
Gee it must be tuff being that young. :rolleyes: |

I'm an assistant instructor at my martial arts dojo and, depending on what day or time I'm there, I may be working with adults, kids, or the Little Dragons, our smallest martial artists (age 3 and up). Working with the Little Dragons is something else; keeping them under control is like...well, the analogy I came up with is, it's like trying to herd cats. (But if you want to be very amused, drop into a dojo and watch three-year-olds practising martial arts.)
The older kids are a bit easier to handle, but if there happens to be a large number of them in a particular class, some weird dynamic seems to kick in, and they start to get more and more rowdy.
I'm starting to think full-time teachers of little people deserve some kind of special Congressional medal of bravery all their own... |

I've often used a similar analogy when explaining what it's like to 'supervise' (experienced) system administrators/programmers/etc.:
It's like herding cats with a laser pointer. After they've grown bored with the little red dot on the wall.
Anyone that's ever tortured, er, played with their cat with a laser pointer usually understands. :) |

Location: Fort Worth, Texas | My 5 year old daughter, Marley, started kindergarten this year. She wasn't ever in day care (stayed with neighbors and friends during the day). She really likes school (so far), she just isn't quite ready to the waking up and getting ready part.
Hmmmm, now that I think about it, I'm still getting used to that part, too! :D |

Pull the Baritone 12 string out of the closet. Find a quiet place for memories, tears, jubilation, regrets, friendships, family trials and sucesses, goals reached and goals ungrasped to flow through your mind.
I suggest you do your most Pete Seegerish version of Turn, Turn, Turn.
Maybe you have a better one... |

Location: Omaha | Our big life transition was dropping our oldest (daughter) off at college today. My wife is especially having (and going to have for some time, I'm afraid...) a tough time; I'm sure mine will kick in unexpectedly...it did a little in the car on the way home...I was by myself since we took two vehicles,so had some time to think (and pray!).
I think she'll be fine; she's a GREAT kid, going on a track scholarship, and is also starting out this fall running cross-country (like her old man did...back in the days when he was SKINNY!).
She has two great roommates, and we me their parents; all wonderful people, so that makes us feel better. And she's only about 2 hours away, so we can go see her and watch her run once in awhile.
But it will be interesting to watch how the dynamics around our house change this fall (we have three other kids; two boys and another girl).
That's life, though...always changing...someone mentioned "Turn, turn, turn;" I've been reading that passage (in Ecclesiastes 3) quite a bit these past few weeks; partly because I've had a couple funerals, but it applies to all of us everyday - as do the verses that follow the famous verses used in the song (if you read it, keep reading verses 9-14; some real meat there).
Enough philosophizing...back to guitars!! (We can talk about life later, right?!)

It is the same child we sent to kindergarden thirty some years ago, and high school, and college, and marriage, and D-I-V-O-R-C-E, and tells you that coping is too hard.
Give those children backbone and don't protect them too much. |

My kids are in the same age vacinity....so I can understand. I have a 23 year old...graduated from college. A 19 year old second year and a 17 year old (daughter) senior in HS.

Location: 6 String Ranch | I really believe in the 30/50 deal. Have your kids by the time you're 30 and they're gone by the time you're 50. I've also been told that when they go to college you should move and only communicate by email and meetings in public places. It's funny that she's the first to get engaged since she's the youngest. Day 2 of Pre-K went off without a hitch.The teacher sent a note that stated how good he was in class today.
My wife and I have decided that our Son was Kidnapped by Aliens, Tortured with the sound of Taylor's and Then Forced to watch 24 hours of QVC,
In the meantime they sent an exact clone of Corey, Except for Behavior Patterns..They would have gotten away with it too!
Active imagination...huh? :D
