Somewhere over 15 years ago I picked up this black and white Ovation bass. (The strange reflection on it you see is a tree overhead.)

I'm pretty sure it's a Magnum. But I can't figure out which model number it is.

Because of the extra metal hardware, I thought it could be Model I or II. But unless my web research was faulty, the Model I has stereo ouputs with four knobs, and the Model II has the active equalizer.

My bass only has three knobs and has no stereo output. None of the descriptions or pictures of the Magnum basses I've seen match this layout.

It's serial number is B 01613.

So what do I have here and any idea of what if may be worth?

Thanks.

It's either a Magnum I or II as you surmise. I'm guessing a refinish, as I'm not sure if they ever had them in black, but the pickguard is custom. The only way to really tell the model is to look under the pickguard. Eventhough the cavity may be the same on both, the Magnum II would have the locking screw receiver (or at least a place for it) as shown below.

hmmm looks like it's time to change those batteries... 2002 ??? wow, it still sounds good.
