Location: Texas | I was in West Texas earlier this week. I am always looking for old Ovations. I found a cheezy guitar that said ADamas on it with a serial number that said 43-93 on it. It is a cool looking guitar(kinda gay though). Looks more like a classical guitar than something I've seen from Ovation. I bought it for my daughter for $82.00. I hope she loves it as much as I love my Custom Balladeer from 1975.

She wanted $200 for it. I even called the company who made the guitar and they verified my belief: it was a pre-war Martin from 1936.
Stupid me decided to be a gentleman and tell her what she really had instead of snatching it up.
Oh well, I did enjoy a few nights with her, but I would trade them for that Martin now.
Way to go Shaft. Where did you find it? A store, garage sale?
Have pic's? |

Is it a joke or Adamas bashing in disguise? Adamas is gay looking guitar?? |

Hopefully, it isn't a joke as some guys are very excited about finding one of the "lost" ones.
Maybe I have to start prowling around some of the small guitar/pawn shops. |

I'm seeing vignettes and re-runs of the Antique Road Show in my mind:
"And with us today is Mr. Bill Kaman. Bill's a renown collector of Collings Guitars, snakeskin boots and the obscure Ovation guitars. Bill what do think about this junk-mall guitar for under $200?" "Well I came here today with Mr. Alex Pepiak, he collects tubes, but Al was just a little too excited to be on camera..."
Remember that it's the chase! Glad to hear there is something left to chase! |

Did the SlotHeads actually SAY "Adamas" on them anywhere?
Being devoid of an official "label" on mine since I first stumbled upon it, I have no idea what they even looked like.
Anybody got a pic of one? Sam??
Were they officially called Adamas when they were at this stage of their development, or was the name given when they went into actual production/marketing?? |

Cliff if your adamas slothead is missing the label then it is one of the korean made copies. Its not worth anything!! Its a fake.I'll give you $182.00 for it.
Now that #43 has been discovered and a new value established i can safely offer you this price but only if it has the original case. |

If i am wrong then good luck to Shaft and his new guitar for $182.

I had finally stashed away enough cash without my wife knowing and went to buy a 1997 Collector's edition parlor guitar that the dealer had since 1997 and it was gone.
I then ran across this 1979 Adamas 1867-7 in near mint condition that someone else was selling.
I really liked the way this guitar looked and played.
I'm not into the "what's it worth" questions. I buy and keep my guitars unless my best friend talks me out of one and gives me what I paid.
What I do not want to do is pay to much for an instrument, especially if I can grab one off ebay or from one of you guys for a grand less.
This is also the first time I have seen one of these guitars.
Anyone have input on the 1979 ADAMAS 1867-7, serial number 666-93.
Thanks,
Jason

The guy I talked to may have written the model number wrong. He said 1867-7. This guitar had a carved headstock and a carved rim around the bowl/face of the guitar.
This looked like what I can best describe as a latin style guitar. Okay I'm a half breed meskin in Texas. This looked like a guitar that was made for me.
Thanks for the input. The guy wants $1500 for it.

im not saying he is not telling the truth.I just cant understand some of his original post and have some questions and doubt about his adamas knowledge("I found a cheezy guitar that said ADamas on it with a serial number that said 43-93 on its up.").
If im wrong then im sorry i stirred things up.
If #43(the gay adamas) is really discovered then great for everyone on this board. |

Cliff, I think they just said Ovation on the 16th fret. They may have said Adamas on the door which will be on the treble side of the bowl, on the part that sits on your knee. |

Now im off to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics on NBC tonight. With some luck the Ovation will be on stage ?? At least i hope.

I try to avoid the news. I was a news junky for many years, until I realized I was getting all worked up over nothing...literally. The crap in the 'news' is *not* news, for the most part (who cares about the Guv'nors proclivities if he's doing a good job?) and what *is* news doesn't make it into the 'news.' My blood pressure went way down once I cancelled all those subscriptions. :)
That being said...the scandle in NJ is the result of an intelligence operation. I'd put money on it. Well, not a *lot* of money, but...

As the man said (after playing the whole song):
This song here was written under the influence of alcohol which has a tendency to make you think things are funnier than what they really are. Had you been drinkin' alcohol at the time of hearing a Fred song, you'd be laying on the floor right now saying that "Fred" song's whipping my ass. Turn it off. |

Anyway, those lyrics are from the song 'Fred' by Rodney Carrington....'t'weren't anything *I* made up. If you heard the whole thing it'd be a *whole* lot funnier...and you wouldn't think I'd gone over the edge. In fact:
Fred
By Rodney Carrington
www.rodneycarrington.com
Intro: Em
Em C
He once shot a man just for snoring
D Em
Got out of bed and shot him dead
Em
Well his name was .... (pause)
C
I didn't know what his name was
D Em
so we just called him Fred
Em
He was riding cross the desert
C
on a horse to another town
D Em
looking for a woman in a nightgown
Em
the horses' name was ..... (pause)
C
I didn't know what his name was
D Em
so we just called him Fred
Chorus
Em
ah oh now, Fred's a ridin' Fred's a ridin'
C D
Fred Fred's ridin' Fred, Fred's ridin' Fred
Em
Fred's ridin' Fred
Verse 3
Em
Well he got into the town
C
met a woman in a nightgown
D Em
she was wearin' a frown (hell it rhymes)
Em
well her name was .... (pause)
C
I didn't know what her name was
D Em
so we just called her Fred
repeat chorus
ad lib (continue same chord progression)
That song's called Fred
