Once again, if I remember where this left off in the previous Post, Miles was going to look into it and possibly offer it for sale through the OFC store.Everybody needs aguitar strap or two..or three... :D |

IOW, uh, I guess I'm in...as long as they're in mauve. |

Location: Hicksville, NY | I think an Ovation strap is a great idea! Perhaps, we can put the Ovation Fan Club logo on it. How about "cgi-ing" (spelling?) a prototype on this forum, give sample of the specs, a rough estimate of how much it will cost, and see how many members will be interested in owning one? I'm not the computer savvy type, so I hope someone out there would be daring enough to create an image of it. As for me, if the price is reasonable, I'll be more than happy to sign up for one.
What do you think?
Peace!

| I want at least two as well? I know this is hard to do trying to get everyone to agree on a style but how's this?
There is a guy in town who does nice custom embroidery work. He has done a bunch of Hats for me in the past. This time I want to have a couple of Hats made with the leaf pattern done on the brim and I figure the little Ovation guitar symbol on the back? ( Not sure if Ovation will have a problem with this?) I also want two straps made from a woven material color that is close to a match for my Adamas beige-blue burst color's? Black might even look pretty good for a strap? Now the hats won't matter so much If I get a nice washed, faded, denim green or cream color? or perhaps a faded blue? And there are a hundred places to buy good quality hat blanks. But the straps are harder to find? I was thinking 2- 1/2 " wide with leather ends? If someone can head me in the right direction for reasonably priced Straps that I can buy in bulk and in a variety of colors I think I can come up with something we may all like? I was thinking on the straps to have the sound holes done but because of the narrow space it may look good with them joined at the fat end, like where they meet next to the neck, and have them facing away from each other like the wings of a bird one facing up and one facing down and just on the front side of the strap? (again if we can use it?) I could have the little guitar symbol placed on the other end near the bottom? So I guess I will need a consensis on this? I will see it through and if you guy's and girls want to do it we will work out the deposit's or payment or whatever later? Hats are not a problem and I would guess If I do a run of about 40 Like I did last year for a local RR Historians group they will run around $14-$16 each and I can send them priority box for the $3.95? That's if the hat blanks are still about $9 each like last time? The straps may be a little harder SO help me find a source for the straps perhaps if there is enough of us who will actually do this I can buy 4 or 5 dozen and get them cheap enough to make this happen?? The only ones I can find have the Guild Logo or Fender or etc. on them? If I can get this down to lets say three colors? How's Black, Beige and Sky Blue? Hummm I wonder if we could find a guitar dealer who may have a catalog or something?

Especially if we would contract an outside source to do it. Perhaps the factory will catch wind of this and move on it. Or at least give permission for a limited run.

| Yeah by no means do I want to piss off Ovation or anyone who has something already going?
I can do the Hats? and I am pretty sure about the price but again I do want to copy the ovation sound holes pretty close but hey as long as I am not making a Guitar I can't see any copyright infringement? It's just a Hat? I do not need to use the little guitar symbol and I will not use the name Ovation on them. can't see any problem making any of these straps or hats as long as it does not have strings and it does not have the Ovation name on it? I am going to make a few Hats for myself anyway I just think they will look great with the leafed sound holes on the brim, I can change the shape just a little and I may use slightly different colors depending on what color Hats I buy? I have a feeling this will be to hard to get a consensis on anyway? and I would need most of the money up front to get dozens of them done. Ohh and just so you know I have no intension of making a few bucks on the deal what ever they cost they cost.
Let me know if you want some I would suggest answering here and if there is enough interest (lets say 30 hats at around $15 ea. & $4 to ship them ) I will get to the guy who makes them and figure out the total cost? OK? I guess if it's OK with Miles & Al I will pursue this? If not (Miles, Al) please let me know?
NO problem.

| Yeah me too, problem is these guy's are busy enough as it is and I would like a Hat to wear before it gets cold? If Miles can get permission to have it endorsed by Ovation then great I'll be very happy to wait, but if not??? I will be doing this for myself in Sept. Just gonna make two for myself and a couple of straps. I'll buy one from the OFC if they get made.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Sorry folks I wasn't really on this thread, guess I should have been. Not sure what kind of hat you guys are interested in, but I do have ball caps (nice embroidered ones) in the store with the Ovation Fan Club(tm) logo on them.
The Ovation Fan Club(tm) logo is trademarked, and I am looking into guitar straps. If someone wants to tool leather ones, I can supply the logo for you and we can sell them in the store. I will not sell any Ovation merchandise in the store, only Fan Club logo stuff. I am not a big fan of leather guitar straps, and have been looking diligently for the OEM of the strap I like to use. This one from Carvin is the strap, and it may be OEM'd by Levi's I just need to followup.
It may just look like many other straps on the surface, but it is wide, well padded, doesn't stretch, hardware doesn't rust, double stitched, and basically built like a tank. The one I have used the most I've had since 1990ish.
So I'm in. The person that does the tooling should email me mileskb@aol.com and we'll work that part out. For folks interested in hats, let me know what you want in a hat. I think the ones I have are great caps too. Much better than ones I get given to me as freebies. Always room for variety. |

| WOW Tony All ya need is Platform shoes a loose muslin shirt and a pair of tight white pants! Goona see the hat guy soon.
Hope that Miles can come up with something like what I am after I think they would sell really good!
The ones I am going to make are not anything official, I plan to use the sound hole pattern somewhat? and "NO" little guitar symbol. That is certainly an Ovation logo. Lets see what he can do? The Straps are what I am hoping Ovation will endorse! IF done with the sound hole pattern and the little guitar symbol, either embossed in leather or embroidered in cloth, they will also sell like crazy.
Miles if you read this keep this in mind for a project sometime soon will ya? A lot of us just can't handle the official Guitar but I think we would all buy two or three straps and/or hats! Randy |

Location: SoCal | I'll say it up front that I recognize we all have separate opinions and, most likely, someone else has the better idea. So, who is right? Usually the other guy.
Personally, I like the old style baseball or golf hat with the structured crown - similar to an Alfa Romeo hat I bought, the OFC hat is a softer, smaller hat designed to pull down on the head (basically a cap with a bill.) So far, given them away.
As to straps, more expensive but I use a padded Levy's leather (2-3" wide). If I get a strap with a logo, I would prefer either a carved logo into the leather piece similar to an old Martin strap I have or a small, not as distinct logo as the Carvin pictured.
Guess I always felt that if the Company's logo was that prominent of an advertisement, I shouldn't have to pay for it. For a couple of years, got golf clubs, balls, and bags supplied - never been the case for guitars. Understandable, always played golf better than the guitar.
Ideal would be the Levy's strap with an Ovation logo stamped (medallion size) onto the strap or a round piece of leather that was attached to the strap. |

The shirts, the hat, the guitar picks, they all are very much to my taste and get used regularly. I wish that the color on the T-shirt and hat could be something a little more colorful than gray, but hey, it works.

Moody's Straps!
Could it be our own Moody has a little side line? :)
EDIT: Which is more preferrable for a guitar strap...glove leather or boot leather? I'd think glove leather would be more supple, but perhaps the boot leather would wear better.
EDIT2: I wish I could find a leather strap with epaulette-style leaves carved/sewn in. That would go nicely with my Ovation. Perhaps an idea for the OFC strap? |
