I seem to have picked up a new hobby ... every town I visit I have to check out the local music store. First, overall impression of redbank. High net worth community, with people who love to boat. the local kids are really into music. Saw them playing in the park and in a club, (Chubbies?) with lots of kids lugging around instruments. Other activity was skateboarding, natch. And polite. I don't know if they were the children of the proletariet working in the tourist industry or the children of the mutual fund managers. In any evernt I wish (more of) the kids in brooklyn were like this. There must be something in the water as this is the hometown of Bruce. Went to an open mike, at the internet cafe, outdoors, sunday, saw a guy playing a grey legend, sounded great. Ovation shines when plugged in. Anyhow, first store was Jack's Music, which also sells cd's and surfboards. Nothing really to write home about. In terms of guitars, they had one used balladeer, with old strings and needed a neck adjustment. The best were the seagulls at 300. Set up was perfect, good sound for the money. They however had a great selection of what my wife calls whiteboy music, the most popular album being Los Lonely Boys, followed by an album by Bruce Springsteen's girlfriend (or wife?). Los Lonely boys are pretty good, and I believe opening for the allman's this summer. Next place was Monomouth music which had a better selection, especially electrics and while an ovation dealer, they were barely any. They had an elite, which was sold and was well set up, and then they had a balladeer special which was crappily set up with old strings, and then maybe 5 celebs. The small selections of takamine's were well set up and I think a better value than the Martin's they had, dollar for dollar. The martin's sounded like martin's but the tak's had better action. They had a good selection of well set up strat's and tele's, as well as some gibson's. I also got to try the acoustic/electric plastic stratosonic, phew, what a stinker. I can recommend the old fashion looking dinner down the street on monmouth for lunch and dinner the salvadorean restaurant. End of review.

". . the hometown of Bruce . ."
(ugh!)

RedBank was also the locale used for the movie "Dogma".

Used to also be home of GuitarTrader.
I may be wrong, but I believe they're no longer in existence . . . .

. . . Al? . . . Bill??

Is "Red Bank Music" still in business? That's where "it" all started for me in 1971.

I like the casual Music Shop reviews. It at least gives a vent to the inadequate stores and I'd like to think some of the good ones get a bonus.
