Location: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida | Been talking to Joe at Shadow AND Kim at "O" about such things... seems Ovation only used Shadow for 1- maybe 2 years max and that was in fact the Hexaphonic (which currently is called the "polyphonic" by Shadow...
From and engineering point of view, one would think the 6 seperate inputs would give more flexiblity, to a pro... to mix the sound any way possible.
Maybe the customer friendly controls for blending the sound together and cost cutting, have kept the single line pick up... Any comments ????
Not sure what's going on in the NEWEST OP-50 with XLR ??? Seems the pickup looks the same from "above" as the original "Pro" pick up with the intonated, 8mm wide saddle... But Kim @ "O" tells me it's been upgraded... Anyone know how ??? I've seen closeup pics of the "Adamas Hi-Output Pickup" Isn't that tha same as the OP-50 mated with the single, round, knob control, on all LX' and Legends currently offered ???
Also discovered the saddles (at least the older pro models) are made of delrin, are hollow and filled with silicone... What's up with that always thought Silcone muted sound ???
"O" nuts are TUSQ, nowadays, I believe. Saddles delrin ??? Delrin is really soft compared with other choices... (The thinline saddles are made of Celcon, which is a pretty brittle stuff. they make toilet ballcocks out of that stuff... (among a billion other things). Does delrin have "Tonal Superiority" was it off the shelf parts, cost cutting again or what ???
I would of thought the reasearch into the ideal Saddle material would be something higher tech than Delrin... It may well be what makes the NEW Pro-50 DIFFERENT, some trick material... Is that part of the NEW PICKUP (secret) ???
OR under the saddle are there some special piezo's (back to 6 indivdual outputs again) ???
Anybody know ??? Don't we have some Factory "O" board members here ???
Can anybody recommend a minimal amp, or sound system with at least 2 or 3 inputs, with aproximate costs for a basic system neccessary to reap the bennies, from such luxuries as XLR ??? Maybe something that is upgadable or stackable for a sound system, with voice mikes... for small gigs... like at picnics etc...

I really like it and have not had any problems with it. It all fits into a roller case like luggage and is very easy to transport. I think another OFC Member (Slap?) has one also and likes his... there are, perhaps, better ones out there (Fender, Carvin etc), but for small venues, this one is actually quite nice... | |
