| I stopped by a local Sam Ash last night and saw a 2001 Collectors Edition hanging there. I took it down and played it. I must say I had high expectations for the sound because of all that I've read here. I was kind of disappointed as the unplugged sound wasn't as good as my 1972 Artist Balladeer (1121). I didn't try it plugged in. It looked like it had been through the wringer - some scratches and some lacquer cracks around the bridge. Still, they wanted $1125 for it (which is why they still have it, I'm sure). In its defense, I think the original strings were still on it. They were very dead. There was even a nickel wound "d" string among the other bronze strings. Would a new set of strings bring this baby alive? Maybe I could convince them to string it up with a new set. If it makes a big enough difference, I might consider it. Otherwise, it was very comfortable to play. If I like it, I will consider making a lowball an offer to them. It has obviously been around for awhile. Suggestions, anyone, on an amount to offer for this guitar with some cosmetic flaws? I assume they still have the case. |

Location: SoCal | Get them to put on a new set of Elixars (or something) and try it. You'll be amazed at what a difference new strings make.
If you want to take a risk, don't put new strings on it, and offer them $700. See what they say. |

Hey Alpep, does that statement include Adamas or just Ovation models? |

Location: NJ | I always feel it is unfair to compare fiber tops and wood tops so I will alter my statement to say that the 2001 redwood top is the best sounding wood top guitar that I have played in a long time |
