Location: Kentucky | Prior to buying my Ovation, I had a local guitar shop guy tell me Ovations were not very durable. For a while, I believed him but decided to take a chance and bought an Elite-T from Eldery.
Since then my Ovation has survived the following:
- Bad playing technique.
- Rapid climate changes (temp & lack of moisture in the winter before I got humidifier).
- My son getting his hand and then fingers caught in the sound holes.
- Kids jumping on the case.
- A dead blow on the top from a heavy plastic Buzz Lightyear doll.
- And knocking into walls with guitar slung on my back.
With all that, still no dings or scratches!
I have not seen a lot of posts, if any, regarding the toughness, strength, or durability of your Ovations. I realize the texture top on the Elite-T may hide bangs more than other models, but I was wondering if others could testify to the point. Anybody have any good stories? I’d love to go back to the local guy and let him know what’s up.

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I don't know what the guy in the store is smoking, but although there are TONS of opinion on Ovation sound, I have never heard anyone call it anything but indestrucable. I have never heard of an Ovation breaking from any of the "normal" accidents one might encounter that would normally destroy most other guitars. |

Location: Kentucky | Well I know how tough they are now. Unfortunately, this guy is turning people off on great guitars. And this was not too long after a stellar Matt Smith demo/workshop in his store.
He actually tried to tell me my Martin was more durable than an Ovation USA model. Saying I either needed to buy a Celeb or a Carbon - CA guitar. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | It might be worth a mention to the owner of the store as that might not be the intent of the owner who would want to sell as many of ANY guitar as possible. |

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana | I too believe that Ovations are the toughest acoustic guitars out there. My Adamas is a tank. I really don't worry about it that much. If I had to use an all wood acoustic, I would have to always be extra careful not to let it hit anything. My Adamas has taken a few hits from music stands, kids in the choir, and quite a few other things. But it still looks like new. Don't let anyone tell you Ovations are not tough. Own one for awhile, and you will see for yourself...Paul Hebert |
