Bill, can you tell me why the headstock carving on my 1981 Adamas 1 is made of foam instead of wood? Now it does look great, and I could have never told you it was not wood. I am just trying to find out why it was not made from Walnut from the begging, and why later ones had it made from Walnut. Thanks....Paul Hebert

The all one piece neck with add on heel was very expensive to produce. We thought it would be cheaper to make the neck two piece without an add on heel. In a two piece neck there's no way to do the carving and have it be right when the two halves go together so we thought to add a piece on. At the time we were foam crazy and would try to make almost anything out of foam. Later we switched back to a wood carving which is muck better but as you said the foam ones look great too. The switch was when the foam machine went away, early 80's? If you didn't know it you wouldn't suspect. If you get a foam one and a wooden one side by side and really look, yes you can tell then too.
