The plugged in sound can be adjusted so many ways. Do you find that you can overcome dead strings by playing plugged in? My strings are starting to go dead, but plugged in they sound great! This can really extend string life!

Good Point horse

When do strings become too dead for electric use? I can't tell much change on my Viper as they get older, I suppose when the intonation goes they would be done, but when is that? Anybody know?

On the lightest gauged wound string run your fingernail along the back of the string. If you feel a noticable dent at each fret it's affecting your sound.
