The high parts of the bumpy finish on my white breadwinner has over the years gotten worn down and discolored. I've tryed cleaning it, but no luck. So, I'm thinking about sanding down the bumps and applying a clear coat. Before I start I need to know what kind of paint was used on the early ('72-'73) breadwinners.

Leave it alone. It's worth more original ugly than pretty refinished. The paint was called Polaine.

You might wanna try hitting with an old toothbrush and some toothPASTE (not that gel crap). Makes and nice mild abrasive.

Hell, if it don't work at least your guitar'll be "minty fresh"! :D
