Location: SoCal | What makes a Tornado different from a Condor?
For those that don't know, both were from the Storm series of Ovations in the late 60's to early 70's. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Condor was made for Hammond with the organ/synth pickup. They were not offered for sale by O. They were also red to black s/b. None of the Ovations were, they were yellow to black |

Location: NJ | the condor pickup can be put onto any guitar. If I am correct the condors built by ovation had a C logo glued to the headstock
I have had several of these condor units. rather primative but fun |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I'd call mine more "sunburst" (like the Viper sunburst), but I do have problems with shades of reds colorwise (partially colorblind) so who knows, but it looks like my other sunbursts to me.

Location: NJ | This morning I was reading a review in Acoustic Guitar of the new Leo Kottke/Mike Gordon CD "Clone". In it Kottke mentions that on one song "Car Carrier Blues" he uses a Condor. He called it an "archaic piece of musical crap" and I suppose he only used it for it's "kitsch" factor. He described it as: The sound that you'd get if you could plug a leisure suit into a wall".
My thought is that it couldn't have been THAT bad if he decided to use it on the album!
Like the "Jellifish", everything has it's own place in a particular application. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | That's actually an interesting description. I have used the term "cheesey synth sound" for years to describe that kind of sound which has its place sometimes. However, after firing my Condor up last year (pic in gallery) I realized that I never heard Cheesey Synth before. It is truly the audible definition of it. It does it very well tho, with a lot of control, so I guess there is something to be said for that. |

Location: NJ | After going back to the article, there is a slight revision I have to make: While Mr. Kottke DID in fact make the ". . leisure suit . ." comment, I mis-quoted him on the other thing. What he SAID was that the Condor came courtesy of a Calif. collector friend of his who specialized in "archaic musical crap". Sorry, Leo. |
