Check's in the mail...as soon as I write the check.

The address is sitting on the kitchen counter waiting for me to write the check...but it sits their sooooo quietly that everything else drowns it out...

PS: any additional postage for mailing to foriegn countries?

I've left hints with addresses and emails and cost and due dates all about the house hoping that someone who loves me will take the hints and buy me a Christmas present.

Brad, if you have heard from someone in Oak Ridge, drop me a note and tell me to relax, otherwise I'll re-double my efforts

The check really is in the mail. And I really am with the government and here to help.

Blues, send your wife, significant other or family member an email with Brad's name and address and directions to send the check there. That's the only way it works for me. They don't pay any attention to hints and if I didn't put it in an email, they say "you never told me that."
My wife's check supposedly was sent a couple weeks ago. We don't let me have the checkbook. That's why I only have 11 guitars.

Her: "You want to pay the bills and balance the checkbook?" He: "No."
So I guess we could say it was entirely my decision. I've been getting by on my $20 per month allowance for almost 30 years. At least I think we're getting by. Nobody tried to repo the Porsche yet.

A true story from just today (this is the relevant part of the conversation, which covered the relative merits of being employed vs. being self-enjoyed...much detail skipped):

Cow-orker: Do you get a paycheck?
Me: No.
Cow-orker: Of course you do!
Me: No. I have direct deposit.
Cow-orker: Well, you get a pay stub, then?
Me: No I get a thing called an 'advisement.'
Cow-orker: OK. Are you getting paid this week?
Me: I don't know.
Cow-orker: How can you not know when you get paid?
Me: I have no idea when I get paid.
Cow-orker: How can you not know when you get paid?
Me: I have direct deposit.
Cow-orker: Don't you keep track of when you get paid and stuff?
Me: No, I have a wife. If I weren't getting paid, I assume she'd tell me.
Cow-orker:

Your post, on top of said conversation, now have me wondering about some things...

Kind of like the anticarjacking bumper sticker--"Driver carries no cash. He's married."
Frankly, I prefer to bear the responsibility for making most of the money and avoiding most of the rest. I share in most of the major decisions on purchases, but I don't have any idea what we spend on groceries. It's a system that has worked fine for 30 years, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Funny, my situation is exactly the opposite.

My darling wife (who is sweet as can be and I love to death) is absolutely HORRIBLE keeping track of money. We went round and round trying to keep up with a system that worked for 3 years and finally came across one - I keep track of the money and paying the bills, and she makes sure to check with me before any large purchases (or Costco trips).

I still run my GAS acquisitions past her first, but usually after I've already committed to them. Easier to ask forgiveness...

Oddly enough, I have responsibility for the major purchases...autos, remodeling projects, taking out the trash, etc. She didn't bat an eye, for instance, when I bought the new overhead door (with nifty iDrive opener), pass doors and the freezer (it was a fun week). But, I show her a first-design Parker Fly Deluxe in near-mint condition that's asking about $400 less than 'market' and all of a sudden we're broke. Lucky for her it was sold when I went back. Heh.
