Location: SoCal | Don't know where to post this but I just got word that one of us died yesterday. I would guess that most of you don't really know him except as a name on the board, but Jeff Hall died yesterday from cancer. He was only in his early 40's and left a wife and young children.
I met Jeff through a buddy and fellow Ovationtist, Clark Byron. They both player guitar left handed (couple of screwballs!). They knew each other from 20 some odd years ago in Florida (where Jeff lived). The three of us got together a year ago in Kansas City to pick and sing for 2 solid days. Jeff was incredibly talented and equally as incredibly influenced by Glen Campbell. He would rip off the most wonderful leads a la Glen.
Jeff's health had been bad since last November and he had been in the hospital of and on for most of this year.
We talk about how we can beat cancer these days and many people do. If you or somebody in your life has fought cancer and won, go hug them and tell them you love them. Both of you are blessed.
I was blessed to know Jeff.

It is even more so when it is one of our "family" so to speak.
Paul, thankyou for posting this.
While I did not know Jeff, I have had the good fortune to meet you so I feel in some way a connection to your and our loss as a fellow Ovationeer.
RIP Jeff.

| Jeff had wanted to come to g8rbowl last January & we traded a number of emails leading up to it. He was excited to show off a 1619-5 he had just acquired, a long-time quest. We were eager to compare it to a 1619-1 I had just gotten. Sadly, his health prevented him at the last minute from making the short drive north.
We'll miss you Jeff. RIP. Our deepest condolences to his family. |

I would have loved to had the chance to hear him play....He was a huge Glen Campbell fan!
He will be greatly missed...... |

On a lighter note tho', I was glad that I brought him back to Ovations this last year. He had played them for years and years, but had moved away from them when the newer models weren't available in left hand (hint to the factory). Last fall he bought a factory left CL but eventually sold it (he had, at one time, a GC 12 that somebody had converted to A bracing and sold the guitar because he wasn't playing it enough. I kicked him on a regular basis for that and he regretted selling it).
Last September when we met at Clark's house in KC, he played and heard my GC RI and just fell in love with it. Eventually, he bought one and even with owning a D-28 and having a beautiful Gibson that his church bought for him, he played the reissue when he plugged in. Just loved it.... |

He told me that he was happy that I'm the new owner of these docs and I was so proud to get them.
Tonight, I'm very sad to know that he's gone.
Repose en paix Jeff.

I know he had the right attitude about beating cancer again. I'm just sorry his body and modern medicine couldn't cash the checks his spirit was writing (even though they were good as gold).
See you on the other side Jeff... |
