Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Sold and shipped my W597 back to Illinois using the USPO. It arrived with the top lifted from the body slightly in the back. Fortunately insured, but hoping insurance process is not to onerous.
Already talked with John B at Ovation and he indicates a low of $150 to a high of $550 if the top has to be replaced.
****sigh**** It was such a sweet playing guitar too.
Left it up to the buyer whether he wanted to keep it and pursue repairs, or whether I will buy it back. Of course USPO may keep it and just cut a check...don't know how that works. Anyone have any experience with them? |

The ups tracking usually works. USPS tracking is a joke. I had a hard time with their insurance also.
the best advice is to pack it well. those who have recieved gutars from me know that you can find almost anything in that box to give it more stability. |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I thought I had packed it well. The guitar was in a hard case, a heavy guitar box was used and in that was bubble wrap at the bottom of the heavy end (to hopefully shield against this kind of drop) plus shipping peanuts filling the bottom sides and top. After that, I stuffed in newspaper just to ensure no movement was allowed.
Oh well, so far (to update) they first told the guy I had to prove that it was in good shape when shipped. I had just sent him a high res photo that I took when selling the guitar (thankfully) and they said...okay, good enough.
Now here is a question. What do they do after they take the guitar and run with it. Does the guitar go into the dumpster (to be fished out by a diligent employee to fix for $150) or to some third party vendor or liquidator.
Man I hate to see it just vanish into the system. It had the best action of any AE guitar I ever played. |

Jeff, I've heard insurance claims are painful process. I sure hope everybody comes away happy and that great guitar isn't a goner. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I had one experience with USPS. I bought a guitar and the guy shipped it USPS insured. But when I open the box th eheadstock was snapped off. The PO took the guitarback as evidence and the seller had to file the claim. The PO eventually paid the insurance money to the seller. At this point I was screwed, seller had MY original payment, PLUS the insurance money form the PO, and the PO had the guitar. The seller said he would refund me, but a few weeks went by and nada. I went to the PO to complain and they gave me the guitar (they didn't need it because the claim had been paid), but they said the refund form the seller to me was not their business. After another week the seller did refund me. So in the end, other than being out of my money for 1.5 months all was well and I got to keep the guitar. Had Rich Beck glue the headstock back on and I screwed the sucker right through the soundboard and bowl, right onto my music room wall where it has collected dust ever since. Dave |

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I hope they do that with my buyer. The USPS in IL told him to file the claim there as it would be quicker. I offered to do it either way with the buyer or me filing the claim.
I talked to a postmaster I know and he was shocked that they would "total" the guitar over a $200 repair on a $950 insurance amount. I told the seller to get an estimate to take with him and maybe make it a bit higher to account for any unknowns. Bad part is....he really likes the guitar, says it plays better than his W597. |

I gotta admit Al, that stuffing the dead squirrels in tightly while they're still soft and pliable, and then letting them stiffen/harden while in transit so that it holds the the guitar case in place was a stroke of SHEER genius!
. . . made for dandy wheel chocks as well . . . |

Guitars from Al smell just like pepperoni. But I tell you, I have NEVER been less than 100% satisfied with any shipment from him.
What I DON'T understand is how the factory ships them. Basically little more than a case rattling around in a box. Yet, you open it and the guitar is not only flawless but the damn thing is in perfect tune to pitch. How do they do that?

Didn't you see that big pressurized tank marked "MOJO" with a hose on it in the ShippingDept. on the Tour??
They "shpritz" a little inside each box before they seal it & send it off . . .
Al does the same thing, only he does it by just ordering pizzas with extra "Mojo" . . . |

While the guitar I purchased from alpep was indeed well packed, I give him extra points for his packing job when I bought a Hercules stand. To fill the extra space in the shipping box, Al used a second Hercules stand. His reply when I called to ask about this, "So that's where it went. I bought a second for stock and couldn't find it." :D
Gives you an idea of the kind of summer our Al buddy has been having. Alternatively, this may be a really good time to buy a guitar from Al. He may still be running the buy one, pack two deal.
I did return the second stand. |
