This is a multi-topic thread.

First off... my 2005 Collectors came today. I fell in love all over again. I had one about a year ago and for some stupid reason, decided to sell it. I love the contour bowl, the engelman spruce, the gloss neck, the swish, the inlaid rosette, the neck size, everything. It sounds wonderful - clear as bell, well balanced and it's so easy to play - almost like an electric guitar. I haven't had time to take and good pics yet - just one:

I will get more pics this weekend. Now - I am on a STRICT one in, one out policy (or so I thought... more on that later). So I sold my Tak '98 Collectors. This was harder than I thought. I got a GREAT deal on the '05, so I gave a great deal on the tak.

Back to the birthday - my family always takes good care of me. They always give me beautiful cards and thoughtful gifts. I was shocked when they gave me my presents and there was a guitar (wrapped up - but what else could it be??). I open it up and there is:

It's a CSE34. As far as I can tell it's a laminated top. I can't find anything that tells me otherwise. It's really pretty to look at and sounds fairly decent. Odds are I'll never play it though. It would be in line behind the 47, the Millennium and now the '05. I'm leaning towards exchanging it - not for a guitar, but maybe an amp or other stuff I need. She is totally ok with this - she's done the same in the past with gifts that I've giver her and I'm ok with it too.

What do you guys think??

Should I hang it on the wall and probably never play it, or exchange it for something else that I will get more use out of?

Either way - I'm a very lucky guy!

You are a lucky guy, I'm sure the gift giver(s) would much rather see you have something you will use and enjoy rather than a wall hanger ! Unless there is sentimental value attatched, get something you will use and think of the person(s) that gave it to you everytime you use it !!

Happy Burstday! :D

As far as the CSE goes... I thought CSE designations meant that it has a Solid Top.
But I don't know about the Koa tho'...
You would have to look inside the manhole cover and see what you've got on the inside.
But that is a "Top of the Line" Celebrity.

Happy Birthday! You could trade it for some recording gear in time for the jam, or use it to get the Tornado fixed after I get finished with it.

Tell her you really like her choice, but want to change to a slightly different model. Upgrade it to an 06 Collector or a LAV Koa. Kind of like getting the wrong size shirt and taking it back for one that looks the same but fits better.

I can tell you that there is a world of difference between the Koa Celebs, with a mid bowl, and the Koa Collectors with the contour bowl. I have "grown" to like the fit of the contour bowl. I still can't figure out why a skinny guy like Dave likes them. Must be the sound.

Thanks everyone! Nice to come home to after a grueling day of driving back and forth to NY.

Damon - if it's Rick from MO, the yes. Nice guy.

Mark - yep - the contour bowl fits me well - one of the reasons I love the '05. I was thinking about upgrading, but I'm going to hold off on getting another 6 string acoustic for now - maybe go after one of the UKIIs floating around.

Captain - If I have to fix the tornado, there's gonna be some Deacon parts on it

TR - forty something... ok 46.

Slydog - the KOA is new from the store (Sam Ash) - if I had known she was going to get me a guitar, I would've slipped her Al's number! The '05 is from Ebay.

BTW - did I mention the great deal I got on the '05??

$560 shipped (ebay shows $600 + shipping, but I had a 10% ebay coupon!)- perfect condition, HSC, and there was a heavy duty guitar cable in there as well. Does that count as a steal??
