You know, i think what is missing from all the specifications on O's is the neck profile. Seems they ought to be able to call that out. Or, do they have too many and change them year to year?

For me this is probably number one or two in terms of playability.

Martin lists neck contours, nut widths, neck width at the 12th, and string spacing at the bridge. Maybe they'll catch up to Ovation in sales. Whoops, wait a minute...

I have nine Os, and I think each one of them has a different neck profile....so I wish GC would make up its blinkin' mind!!!!

I assume GC = Guitar Center? If so why would they control Ovation's production specifications? That seems odd to me.

Just curious.

Presumably, the biggest vendor of your product tells you what they are looking for, et voila, within reasonable limits, you accomodate your vendor. Not strange to me.

I recall that Kaman bought a distributor, either last year, or the year before, but it looks like GC is still the big kahuna.

Perhaps.

GC is just the distributor, not the end customer. Putting production specification in the hands of your distributor also subjugates your market research to an uncontrollable entity. In which case you better hope they are right, and fire your marketing staff. Just doesn't seem to be a good way to conduct business to me. Unless there is some close collaboration between the two companies in conducting market analysis.

Again, just curious how this works, and why neck profile information is not part of the released specification data.

Oh, I thought GC was Glen Campbell. I figured he just passed notes to Mom from time to time.

GC is not a distributor, it's a customer, not the end customer but might as well be since the quest for what a product should be stops with them. Kaman's only customers are retailers, not the end user. What a real guitar player wants is hardly ever considered, although it used to be. Why should Kaman find out what these real customers want? GC has the people walking through their doors every day, we'll ask them! Kaman bought another distributor last year, yes that's true but so what, Kaman is the largest distributor and just ate one of the competitors.
Happens all the time.
