Well ... I sat down this weekend, and after purchasing 10 sets of Adamas 1616 strings, I put a new set on my 1581-8 (Adamas 1), 1537 (Spruce-top Elite), and the 1768C (Cedar-top Elite). I wanted to finally attempt to make an accurate comparison between the different models and various tops. I Tuned them up perfectly and laid them in their cases in front of me, and did various things from plucking individual strings, strumming, arpeggios, picking and finger-picking, checking harmonics and sustain, etc. Then I realized it would be difficult to explain the way they sounded, aside from volume(amplitude),tone, bass, and sustain(frequency response). Does anyone know of a standard description that compares/explains differences in "richness" or "warmth"? So far, the 1581 Adamas is definitely (20%) louder, and the old 1537 clearly stands out as the best sounding in my opinion, but I don't know how to describe it. It just sounds significantly better in a way that is beyond words. Kinda like trying to describe the sound of a Stradivarius.

Hey Vince,

I know what you mean. I did a brief review a while back (maybe not so brief) of the 2080, W597, and 1537 at the same time.

There is a huge difference in all three guitars, yet none of the sounds are negatively different. Just huge, full and ....different.

Sorry I don't have a good list of adjectives for you.

Maybe Tuppy could put together a list of categories and ratings for each one that could be used for the basis of future reviews and comparisons....

I only mention the Tupperware man because the true authority is StandingOvation....saddly retired from the OFC.

I had an interesting discussion with my wife yesterday about sound, light, and color. How they are relative due to the way they can be measured in frequency. It's also interesting that we also describe light and colors with the terms "warm" and "cool". It also dawned on me how little we see and hear of what actually exists in the full spectrum of light and sound. (I know this probably sounds a little deep) But I think what we have been trying to describe in sound is actually a third dimension. It's kind of like the comparisons of height, length, and -in this case- "depth". Maybe we can coin a phrase and call it the "Q" Factor (Q for Quality)
