I recently went to a show of my favorite band, 3. The lead singer plays mostly Ovation guitars. One guitar he plays often is an Elite T. When I saw them live, I realized he has two black Elite T-ish guitars.

The second one had a skull inlay at the top fret, and two inlays toward the bottom. It also had a super shallow bowl, but it had the textured finish like a T. He's sponsored by ovation now, I believe, so do you think this was a custom guitar?

It was very beat up, so I got the impression that it was older than his standard elite t, and that maybe it was someone else's custom that he bought or something. I don't think there are any pictures of that guitar, but you can check out his music at purevolume.com/3 or purevolume.com/joeyeppard

You should see him play live. He's amazing. At the show I saw, at the end of the last song, he broke two of his strings by playing so hard. With his bare hands, too... he doesn't use picks.

A shallow body Elite T is actually a standard model, 1868T I believe, so that one shouldn't be a special order of any kind. The inlays obviously are, though I think that there are a lot of places that can do that type of thing now after market.

I've not played the shallow model, but the 1778 T is an awesome player and a VERY durable guitar, IMHO.

Oh, alright. Because I have a 1778t... I thought that was the only black elite t. Also, he had a 1778t as well as this one, so I thought maybe this one was special.
