You don't see these coming up for sale very often anymore. And I had planned on keeping this one...at least for a while. (Long enough to see how I liked the SSB.) And I console myself with the knowledge that I'll have another chance some day. But since I suddenly have to repair one of my sentimental favorite guitars after its top got broken in an accident, my time with this one (and a couple of others actually) will be short-lived.

If you have never played an 84C, and wondered just how nice a SSB could sound, you owe yourself this particular treat. I don't know what they did differently to this particular model, but it sounds REALLY nice unplugged. It's hard to describe, but it puts out more tone than any shallow bowl should! Does it sound like a deep bowl? No. Does it sound really good? YES. Three times yes!

It's condition is excellent for being 27 years old. Just a few small nicks on the soundboard and a slight nick on the headstock. There is some scuffing or something on the back though it's in a weird place to be buckle rash. It has some light fretwear with the worst wear on the second fret. (It should not need a fret job any time soon.) There is some minor wear on the ebony fretboard near the nut, but nothing major and certainly playable. (I took several pics of the area, but couldn't get it to show.)

Now for the good stuff. The action is fine with a shim still under the saddle. There are NO finish cracks, nor is there any checking. The pre-amp is plenty hot with zero scratching as you adjust the volume or tone. The previous owner installed a type of locking strap pin system on it, but I only have one of the locking parts. (I've never used these, so I'm not sure of the brand.) The neck is straight, and the inlays on it have enough flame to be perfectly obvious despite their small size. The top has not turned that sickly green color with age that the nutmeg finish sometimes gets. Frankly, the guitar looks really, REALLY nice and plays just as easy.

It comes with its original case which has 2 decades worth of wear on the outside but is perfect on the inside. The interior is that cool royal blue instead of the light blue these usually are. The case closes and latches tightly.

I've installed a fresh battery and new D'Addarrio lights on it. It's ready to gig and will do justice to whatever you can throw at it. I'm going to owe the factory way more money than I had intended due to the twin catastrophes of UPS handling on one guitar and the accidental injury to another. So let's make a deal on this one.

You can find the full album of photos with more pics right HERE.

I'm asking $725 + shipping OBO.

Let me know what you think folks.

No nibbles?

No questions?

I did say OBO you know.

I'm willing to take payments as well.

BTW, I couldn't afford an OMA custom job, I had to go on the cheap with an outdated copy of photoshop. ;)

Ironically DB, I had already procured a beater wideneck to have restored. I'd already started fleshing out the details with the mothership.

Then the UPS debacle happened. Then the 01C got damaged.

C'est le guerre!

The wide neck is in a corner of my office until I can get my other Ovation affairs squared away.

So who wants this one then? :)

Here we go again ;-)

Blimey Patch that's a nice one and cheap too.

My 1st purchase on the OFC was one a 1984 Collector from Patch and it was blooming lovely.

I'm amazed this is still here and tempted myself.

Hey Dweeze! I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you'd been. Good to see you're still here!
