Location: Jet City | This is the hardest post ever for me. My 1778LX was my first acoustic Ovation. The top is an amazing piece of wood. The silking looks 3D, absolutely gorgeous. THis guitar has a TON OF MOJO. It's been played ALOT! No dings, cracks, or anything. The tone is very warm and mellow.
This guitar was the cover of the 2008 OFC Calendar.
This is really tough for me to do as it was my first pro-level acoustic. I bought it in 2004 brand new from American Music in Bellevue, the same place where the roadshow was on Friday. I suppose it's fitting as I bought it's replacement there while at the roadshaow, a Custom Elite.
It's in perfect shape aside from a bit of pick haze.
It's up for half what I paid for it. $640 with case, also in perfect shape.
HEAVY SIGH
Here are the pics...

Location: Jet City | Thanks Paul. I'm really down about this, but I made a deal (w/SWMBO) to let it go if I was 'allowed' to take the Custom home.
I should have posted specs. Please be aware that this is the current model with the current electronics package and LX upgrades....

Scalloped X bracing pattern
Inlaid exotic wood epaulettes
Ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays
Lightweight 5-piece advanced neck

Dual-clamp heel block
Original 1968 Ovation pickup
OP Pro preamp
33% lighter Lyrachord GS bowl

Gold tuners
Hardshell case included
MSRP $2499.99 (I paid half that new)
I'll also throw in a "Standing Ovation" brace for no additional charge. |

Not yet. I was thinking I'd do a shoot of it, and the new Adamas when it shows, but maybe I'll do a shoot tonight.
I've been itchin' to do it, so I think I will.
Maybe I'll check with Al on ETA. |

I could tell Damon was struggling with the "what do I sell" part of the "I really want this" equation. Ovation threw in an iDea to make his purchase a really sweet deal. I just came home with a songbook, some good memories and about $500 in travel expenses. Damon will get some good use out of his new purchases and someone else will benefit from the 2 in one out policy. |

Location: Jet City | Mark, I knew the answer the whole time as to what had to go, and that was the struggle. There's a sentimental tie to this guitar and I know it's silly, but I'd really like this thing to stay in the family if possible... but I'll be forced to eBay it soon if nobody grabs it here.
Please note that case candy and key are included, and to sweeten the deal, I'll call this a shipped price. |

Location: Derry NH | Oh, and where's my manners? Guitar rec'd and you were spot on about the silking, Damon. The grain runs deep. Like looking into a clear, sandy river bed. I ran through Stairway to Heaven to put it through its paces and it did not disappoint! Unplugged she's woody and mellow. Plugged in and, if ya want, a monster shows up. Thanks, mister. She will be cherished. I've named her Niki after my maternal grammy. The sweetest person you could imagine. I hope she smiles as she looks on down from heaven. |
