It doesn't look like anyone here has listed this one, but I thought I'd let you know.

Yup, would have been worth more in the Buckskin Color.
Not original.

So the guy appears to be lying, right? Or maybe he is just talking about the hardware?

FWIW, I'm not going to bid on this one (don't have the money right now)

why do you guys think that it has been refinished?
Because that pg was usually on the tan ones or because the hog finish was usually on Deacons?

We all know how the factory cobbled things together on occasion.

Why?

Early Nylon Bridge dates before the HB pickups.

Headstock Logo is not original

Finish of the Mahogany has "grain" indicating a strip and coat finish. Deacons have the thick Poly finish and not the "True Oil" finish.

The Poly finish doesn't "wear" as described (opinion).

Case is "Worn" but the guitar has no dings (opinion).

When someone makes the "original", "rare" statements I perceive it as a defensive posture to cover their own doubts. (my pet peave)

Wow, I really wasn't awake when I posted this!

I guess it is what happens when you think you see a good deal and jump the gun a bit. Oh well, it's a learning lesson.

My 2ยข?

Before I bid $950 I would like more photos of the 'wear' and the case.
(It amazes me how people want a Thousand bucks for something but are too cheap to buy a good listing)

Uh, when you are selling a "collectible" item you shouldn't have to explain the History of Breadweiner manufacture. People who want one usually know what it is.

That said... I cannot afford it! :(

As the Fox said... "Grapes were probably sour anyway!"

Truth is that AJ and I aren't "masters".

More like hyper critical penny-pinching tightwads!

A couple of interesting points. Personally I judge guitars on what I see, not the words in the ad. In most cases, people are doing their best, going on what someone likely told them.. like the experts at Guitar Center for example.. So don't knock the messenger, (person placing ad) it's bad form.

So what I see...
1. The finish was never on a Breadwinner or Deacon, but was on a Limited, so the body MAY be an original body... or refinished.. factory custom.... Have to have it in hand to tell.

2. The wrong logo on the headstock would lean it toward being a refinish.

Bottom line, it looks pretty nice and if the pre-amp still works... woo whoo too. If desired could be restored pretty easily.

And the Seller makes an honest description for it too.
You can't find that level of USA made quality under $1k so despite perfect-ness issues it should be a great guitar.

This has always been my angle. Pretty much any Ovation solid body listed is a bargain because the market has thankfully not caught up with what they are actually "worth" in the sense of finding a similar product.

Even with imports... it's just plain silly that you can buy an Ovation GS for $150, and then disassemble it and sell the parts for $300-$400 easily. What really surprised me was that I can sell EVERY piece of the guitar (neck, body, pickups, tuners, bridge, pickguard) but at least double what you can buy one completely assembled, set up, and ready to rock.
