Location: SoCal | Probably a really good guitar, but it's not really a 1537 anymore. More like a current Elite LX. Do you have pictures of it? Did you maintain the Quintad bracing pattern or go with the newer LX bracing? Inlaid Epaulets or overlaid? They wouldn't have refinished the top. You got an all new top.
As I said, some pics would help..... |

Not to be rude, but a 1537 is desirable because it is a 1537...
With those changes it is not a 1537 any longer. |

You should try them in person. Almost exactly a year ago we were entertaining all those bottles. |

Location: Frederick MD | OK here is the story. I am a full time working musician, sometimes you need money. I put it on craigs list because it was an emergency situation. no body bought it. I don't need to sell it so bad now. ( more gigs if you know what I mean) I was approached by a couple of collector friends of mine and they told me not to let it go for less than $1000.00 USD. I posted it here because I thought someone would be able to appreciate it better. But I'm not so sure now. when people post the rude, insulting comments I got here.... well I don't know. Like I said in the posting if you are interested in the guitar I can email you some detailed pics. If you are not interested in the guitar don't call me names. |

Location: SoCal | I don't have a problem with this. But you should have considered that somebody would research the craigslist ad and seen the lower price. Looks bad.
On another note, when the factory put on the new body (mid bowl, different electronics, and whether you realized it or not, and they would have told you, a new top), it ceased to be a 1537. The reason 1537's are considered such great guitars, is that Ovation got the configuration right. When you change the configuration, you've changed the guitar.
Now, your guitar may actually sound better than an original 1537. I don't know. But it's no longer a 1537. |

Don't let the one rude post chase you away. That person has been dealt with. Also, as noted by Moody and some others... with all the modifications (which is not the norm, especially on this guitar), and being that you posted on April 1st, well... you can see where that looks suspicious. I figured there'd be an "April Fools Gotcha" post by now... but apparently not.
Good luck with the sale. |

If they replaced the top they did not charge me for it they left the model number sticker on the guitar.
The guitar rings like a bell and looks brand spankin new. |

Regardless, since it is now a cutaway model the proper designation would be a 1547. |

Location: Orlando, FL | Interesting guitar. I'd love to hear it side by side with a regular 1537 or 1547 for comparison.

Location: SoCal | Normally I have no doubt that the top would be changed with a bowl change. But you should know the top of your guitar (I know every nick, crease, and grain pattern in my guitars). You should also recognize a difference in the binding and the darkness (or lack thereof) of the top. Can't imagine that you wouldn't notice.
That it looks brand new and not 26-27 years old indicates that the top was replaced.
And they move the labels over to the new guitar... |

The guitar does have the new binding ( dit is several ply with the center being red. I just assumed they refinished the top, but you guys sound like the experts and I will bow to your expertise! I know the mods did cost over $600.00 would you like to hazard a guess on what a fair selling price would be?
Thanks for your help |

A couple years ago your asking price would be considered on the low side. With the current economic conditions most are feeling (and guitar sales in general) potential buyers might consider it on the high side.
You have to decide how badly you want to sell it and how much you need to make on the sale. You can always OBO and see what happens. |
