Location: Winston-Salem, NC | As much as I love my '05, I really miss the visual aspect of the Elite epaulets. I'm posting this to see if anyone out there has an Elite with the following characteristics that they would like to trade for my '05.
- Deep bowl (or deep contour bowl)
- Cutaway
- Non-OP24 preamp (ideally Optima or OP-X)
- Natural finished top
- Rosewood board (ebony would be ok though)
- Maybe a special edition (1768C, 1768-EMSX, etc)...could include cash for one of these
If someone had a 1547 or CE768, I would include some cash with the trade for those. Here is a pic, and I can provide more if interested.

Also, I know it's a long shot, but I would absolutely love to trade for an Adamas 1581, and I could definately include cash with this trade. |

Location: here | I'm very interested in this, just what I've been looking for really to replace my old ultra deluxe, but I'm a bit nervous buying something online like this. Seems odd no one has taken it yet? Is it that people want the epaulets like yous?
Do you have more pics? Something to convince me to take the risk... :) |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Welcome aboard gitRhero. Some people tend to be very selective when it comes to the particular models they want. Another factor is the sluggish economy. This is a very high quality instrument though, and being that it's a collector's model, means that the highest quality materials and workmanship have gone into building it. If I didn't already have too many guitars, and a wife that is looming over my shoulder everytime I get online, I would have snatched this deal up a long time ago myself. As far as "on line" purchases go ... This is NOT Ebay. The majority of the members here have proven to be very trustworthy, and knowledgeable of the guitars they sell. I have been a member for a while now, and I have not heard of even one (1) person feeling they've been screwed on a purchase or trade here. Good luck on your decision! |

What is the 2005 neck like? I like the ebony board, definitely a +.
Thanx MusicMishka, I used to have an Elite Special (S778) that I had to sell. I loved the 'V' shaped unvarnished neck on it, played so nice. Looks wise though I don't really care, I just want a good playing and sounding git for recording. |

Location: here | Thanx for the links mate. Great looking guitar, looks wise I have no problems at all, I prefer the traditional look. Great wood, and the top lol.
Ebony and Englemann I imagine would make for an interesting tone.
Just want to hear a bit more details about the condition etc, looks great in the pic. How are the frets, will I need to get a dressing any time soon etc... |

I joined OFC a few years ago which led to a buying binge of Ovations including FD-14, Patriot, and another 5 or 6 Ovations. One of them was 2005 Collector's. This is the first Collector's model that has the Contour body. It is a marvelous guitar, albeit somewhat understated.
In any case, there are a lot of dishonest seller everywhere including at eBay. However, if you buy from one of the OFC members, especially who have been around, you will be very happy with the price and the condition of the guitar. These are guitar lovers just as you are. My two cents worth. |

Location: Winston-Salem, NC | gitRhero...I apologize for my tardy response, but it looks like my fellow board members have filled in for me nicely.
The condition of this 2005-ES is virtually brand new. Absolute no scratches or other cosmetic issues of any kind. The frets have LOTS of life left on them. The only thing that's even worth mentioning is that the label inside the soundhole must have had weak adhesive on it, because it fell off on it's own about a year ago. I stuck it to a piece of wax paper though and put it in the owner's manual...there isn't any sticky residue or anything like that inside the bowl. I made sure of that. Here are a few more pics:

I just hope I like the contour bowl I've never tried one. |

Location: Seoul, Korea | It is definitely more comfortable to hold. Whether it has a better sound than the original oval bowl...well, I think it is a personal taste. Personally I found the Contour bowl not moving around as the oval bowl when playing it. In terms of sound volume, etc., I found no difference, perhaps even louder than the oval one. Dave's (better known as Gallerinski) Ovation site has more information on this as well as other Ovation and Adamas information. Please check, if you haven't. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I have both bowls and I prefer the contour. I think it is a great improvement and I don't feel anything has been lost with exception to the nostalgia. There are some here that I am sure would disagree, but that's ok with me also. Good luck on your decision. It is a great deal on what is pretty much a new guitar. |

If the contour is more comfortable than the standard back then it should be good, as I never had a problem with the round back. Still having a flat stomach probably helps haha... |

Location: here | Not sure what happened but I was never emailed back on this sale and something came up so I took it.
A like new black 1778T (with truss rod cover and OP Pro, ebony board, mid bowl, OHSC and paperwork) for 500, and I love it....Not the center hole I was looking for but probably better? It sounds really good for a git that price and after taking out a couple of shims the action is perfect.
Sorry it fell through I hope you sell it and get the Elie you want... |

Location: Bradenton, FL | Hi nosajwp, I'm interested in your '05. The only thing that concerns me a little is that I'm not used to playing acoustic and my daughter (who I'd planned to share this with) is just starting out. Anyone have comments on the comfort of the deep contour bowl? My daughter and I are both skinny so that should help ;-) |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | I can only speak for myself, but SEATED, the deep contour bowl is extremely comfortable. Somehow the guitar seems to mold itself to your body and stays solidly in your lap with no sliding around. I don't use a strap at all, but I've heard that some who do use one don't care for the contour bowl. But if you're going to play sitting down, I don't think you could find a more comfortable guitar. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I have both and have had all the different size bowls and I LOVE the comfort of the deep contour bowl most of all. I wish I could put one on all my acoustics. And by the way ... THAT guitar IS a STEAL! You would even have money left over for an acoustic amp if you wanted to plug in. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | My daughter and I didn't like it the first time we tried one, but I think it was because we were used to the deep bowls and saw no reason to change. I still don't have a need for the contour, although I fill out the contour much more than I used to.
That said, I played mine last night for an hour or so and never paid any attention to the contour bowl. I have started to sit on a stool and maintain proper position because of a shoulder problem. I don't use a strap and the guitar sits just fine. The top part of the contour bowl is basically the same shape as a deep bowl anyway, so the part your body makes the most contact with will be the same. Soundwise the contour bowl seems as good or better than a deep bowl. So now that I have some experience with it, I've decided that even if I don't need it, the contour bowl is a good thing. Now back to my diet. |
