It doesn't have to be mint condition, pick scratches are fine. I'd like a sunburst of some kind, cherry or firetop would be good.
Trying to find one in the $1000 range.
Thanks, Steve |

The one I tried was great! Or you might want to try a Godin Exit 22. Resale value wouldn't be as good, but you're not storing it, you're playing it. I saw a les paul in the musician's friend catalog for 859(?) Just plain mahogany, no fancy paint job (which is more to my taste anyway) If you want something from the Gibson line, try a plain les paul special, that'll be less than 750 new. Ah so many guitars, so little time .... |

I've also seen some Gibson Les Paul Studio's go on Ebay for around $500. Has anyone played one of those? If so, how do they play in terms of the standard?
I haven't seen an Orville before (I only thought Gibson made Gibsons and Epiphones), so thanks for the information. |

Any comments on the Gibson Les Paul Studio's? |

Are you familiar with Heritage guitars? The company operates out of the former Gibson factory in Kalamazoo and is owned and operated by former Gibson craftsmen. Quality is supposed to be better than Gibson. The Les Paul model is the H140. There are lots of them on eBay, like this:

I'm looking at the prices (Hamer USA) on Ebay and the suggested Retail Price, and those things are more expensive than full blown Gibson Les Pauls!
Now, if one of you guys could get me a Hamer for a low price, that might be a little different, but the Hamer USA's I'm seeing aren't cheap. |

Hamer started out years ago as a ServiceDepot for Gibson. Basically, they "put right" all of the FactoryF@ckUps that Gibson put out.
Now they build BETTER guitars "RightTheFirstTime".

Might be an option. |

I have nothing against Gibsons, but these really are a step above. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | You can have Guitar Center order a guitar for you and if you don't like, they take it back. You might want to try the Hamer Sunburst SATQ. It's made overseas and a lot cheaper than the american made models. Some people have them here, and they seem to really like them. My gut says that you have heart set on a Gibson Les Paul Studio, so I say, if you have the money, just go for it! Play it to hell and get that Gibson out of your system. When it comes to guitars, there's no other way to avoid temptation but to give in. I never liked the Gibson tuners though, you'll want to replace them eventually. The rest of it'll be just fine. |

Check out Al's site LostArt/Vintage Instruments. He has a Hamer Special for $750. If I remember correctly, these are made from a single slab of Mahogany. Check it out.
After recently posting about wanting a USA Hamer, I went ahead and bought one of the offshore Hamers, a goldtop with P90's. It was on eBay, with a finish flaw. StandingOvation had good things to say about a SATQ he had recently bought so I gave it a try. Got it for $202.50. If I had $750 would have bought Al's. Anyway, I have owned a Mex. strat, a Cali. strat, a Nashville tele., admittedly not top of the line Fenders, but this Hamer has them all beat. I can only imagine how good a USA Hamer would be. (If only I could play!) |

I have improved to mediocre on accoustics, but I still stink on electrics, so the statement that I just made is still in the theory stage for me. |

Have you looked at the Les Paul Standard Lite ?
I picked mine up in 2004 for $900 BIN on eBay. It is in my gallery under posts.
I still see them up for auction periodically. You can still grab one in excellent condition or better for a grand.
It is a double cut and doesn't have a bound neck or a flame top though.
It is very comfortable due to the lighter weight. |

Awesome guitar from the 70's that was originally meant to replace the Les Paul. I use to own 3 of them.
Good buys still on ebay for under $750. Just make sure it is all original with the 5 way chicken switch. Also stay away from the deluxe where the strings go through the body. |

Location: london | a little suggestion... for $400-$700 you could bet a gibson marauder. they are awsome guitars completly overlooked by just about everyone. similar to ovation electrics. adam jones (tool) used it on aenima recordings and uses a les paul custom live.
well worth looking into. a 70's collectible.. for the price of ?? what good guitar van you get for 400 bucks seriously.
also a yamaha sg 2000 is great little ass kicker. (do you know them?) |

They can produce a lot of different sounds. And they weigh around seven pounds. |

It may cost more, but I'm going to get a Gibson Les Paul Standard.
It may take awhile, but when I get one I'll take lots of pictures and tell you all how it is.
Thanks again,

Hey, JoJO, whadda you say?
We all want to know what you learned today!
My three year old watches this insipid Disney k-rap called 'JoJos Circus' sometimes...maybe once or twice a week. The stupid theme song keeps popping into my head. It's annoying (and it's Disney, so it's evil).
I learned that the GNX4 is freaking cray-zee, bay-bee! And that Steven really wants an LP Standard. :) |

But that Studio Vintage Les Paul made of all mahogony has a GREAT sound that I played.
I like it better than the LP Standard. I fell in love with it. But (look on the general page) I decided to make my own Les Paul style guitar, with everything I want.
But if anyone else is looking, just try that all Mahogony LP Studio - It is FANTASTIC. |
