Location: Fayetteville, NC | I can't believe I'm doing this. But a financial crisis dictates that I must sell my 1858 Elite 12 String. I got her new in August of 2003. Ovation put a mid-depth Bowl on it and a 8T Transparent Blue Finish. Only cost me $1200. With this sale I will no longer own a guitar or an Ovation. Pics are in my gallery.A few ofc members saw and played this guitar during the 2004 OFC Factory tour and jam. She's in good shape, the neck is straight and true. I really hate to do it but she's got to go. And she needs to go pretty quick.
$875.00 shipped.I'll close now in tears |

Best of luck with the sale and hopefully a quick recovery. |

Location: Fayetteville, NC | Thanks Stephen. I looked at every possible avenue to try to avoid doing this. But it seems it's just icing on the cake. I may very well have to take a second job as well.all of this has just sprung up from family medical expenses. we need to get a handle on this thing now before we find ourselves drowning in more debt. |

just knowing you'll say a prayer or two brings comforting thoughts. |

Location: SoCal | Steve, I can't presume to know how you feel, but a year ago I was in the same spot, for the same reason. It feels like a hole of which you just can't get out. Actually, I've been there twice for that same reason. The first time was 11 years ago. I sold a sports car for almost no money because I believed that I needed what little I could get. Looking back, I realize that I never should have sold the car because the money wasn't enough to make a difference.
Last year, I thought about selling guitars to pay medical bills, but decided that in the short run, it wouldn't make that much of a dent. Instead, I worked more and harder, and we got the bills paid off. And I still have the guitars.
Get a second job and keep the guitar. The joy the music will bring you will comfort you and your family. And it a couple of years, you'll wonder why you ever thought of selling it.
All our prayers are with you...... |

I totally understand the medical crisis.
Nine years ago my daughter was run over by a drunk driver while she was crossing the street on foot. We were called to the hospital and told that as next of kin we needed to sign a release so they could operate. She was 19 at the time, not living at home and had no insurance. What they did not tell me was that I was also signing patient responsibility forms. My wife and I were held responsible for over 700,000 in medical bills. Really screwed up my early retirement plans but what price do you put on a family members health!
Refinanced the house, cashed in all my retirement savings, used both kids college funds and paid off the debt.....but early retirement plans went out the window. Went from steak and champagne to red beans and rice with water!
Things will get better. Possessions are merely possessions and can be replaced. Good health is much more precious and important. Prayers are with you. |

Of course our taxes are higher than in the US but when you need medical help it is reassuring to know that the balance of your life doesn't get upset.
Best Wishes |

And T28, sorry to hear your story as well. I hope your daughter recovered from her injuries. |

I hope things work out. Moody sounds like he's got a good plan, maybe you can try alternate means to raise the cash.
You and your family are in my prayers. hang in. |

Like the others I want to send my best wishes but not my checkbook. Put the guitar in your closet and do what you must to get through this season. Sometimes things need to seem impossible so that we have to ask for answers from above. If you do end up selling and end up without a guitar for a while don't be afraid to ask for a loaner.
Dave's got so many he won't notice if one is missing! ;) |

Sorry t'hear about your troubles. My heart goes out to you.
I heartily agree, that at all costs, you try to keep your guitar. That being said, if the situation develops to where you have no other option but to LetItGo, perhaps I can furnish you with a "loaner" :
Ultra 1515D
Bought it (used) for gigs, but pickup/preamp are "touchy". Relegated it to a beach/boat guitar when I got my Legend12 for gigs. I discovered that a black guitar isn't optimal for beaches OR boats. I now have a lighter, more compact Pacemaker12 for that purpose, so the Ultra hangs idle most of the time. If things get too bad and yer stuck "guitar-less", lemme know and we'll work something out till you're back on your feet again . . . . |

| Steve - I'm devastated to read your news - you have all of my good wishes and thoughts and Lady S sends her best wishes as well.
My current predicament means I've seen 2 doctors and 3 specialists, had I don't know how many X-rays, a CT scan and quite large surgery (although nowhere near as big as it might have been ) and am now lined up for 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. All at a cost of nothing.
No cheap political points here - but you guys have to understand that medical care is the very least a civilized country should offer its citizens. Your lives should not be ruined through illness - whatever my problems are, money just doesn't enter into it. I wish I was close enough to send you a guitar.
I feel terrible for you. It just shouldn't happen.
Cliff - you're a hero. |

I just went out lunchtime and got some new strings for the Ultra. I'll try to get it restrung over the weekend (got a gig Sat nite). Next, I just gotta find a good, sturdy shipping box and a safe, cheap mode of trans . . .

Location: Midland, MI | I used to hang out on another board where all the 'regulars' were really cool. When one of the members was having a spot of (serious) trouble, most everyone would kick in $5, $10, $20, whatever they could spare just so said member wouldn't have to 'get rid of the last one.' It was a really, really incredible thing in this day and age. The best thing was, it was charitable, without being charity. I think Al will remember what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, the place went sideways (not really downhill) and I don't check in there. Haven't seen that kind of thing in a long time. Shame.
Just thinking out loud. |

There have been kind words, a phone call from one of the members here who is a minister and emails to boot. Thnks so much one and all.It really does help knowing that I belong to a Internet community of Caring people. Keep the Family in your prayers as we continue to Climb The Mountain. |
