Location: Phoenix AZ | Ironically I just bought one of these about 3 weeks ago from a guy in Hawaii (he didn;t have any ukuleles for sale, so I had to settle for an Adamas). I can attest that these are REALLY nice guitars. I bustered the treble holes and it's really got as nice tone for a supershallow. Somebody will own a nice guitar from Serge. Dave

Are both of those guitars former instruments of Marcel D?
If so, who owns them now? I love the red slothead.

The "orange" Adamas was specially made for Marcel Dadi.
Marcel sold this beauty to Patrick & David Wagner (dad & son) from the french "Guitar Pickers Association" in the early 90's. They still have it today. You can visit the GPA web site at:
GPA Web Site
The blue one has never been owned by Marcel but was made with the same specifications. A larger neck (easier for playing finger picking) and the same epaulets on right and left. It's really a rare instrument and probably a custom order. This one is for sale in France but is too expensive for my budget!! :( (4500 euros/5400 US$)!!
I should have in the next weeks more pictures from other great guitars who were owned by marcel. They are in GPA's members collections.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Noah, I agree with you and also disagree with you. Yes, it is disrespectful when someone "hi-jacks" a thread. But starting a topic here is not like putting an ad in the newspaper with no feedback allowed. The give and take of a thread and the different views that it can bring to the subject is the beauty of a messege board, imo. Yes, we should stay on topic and help Serge sell his guitar. But as I re-read this while thread I do not see anything that deviates from that. Serge describe his guitar. I seconded the opinion how good a guitar it is and interjected the concept of even improving the sound further by muting the treble holes. A few asked what I meant. This lead to discussion on the number of treble holes and Jerome lead us to some interesting variations of hole layouts. But I think this is OK.
I agree that we should respect Serge's attempt to sell his guitar and we should atay on topic. SO, SOMEBODY PLEASE BUY THIS GUITAR. IT IS A GREAT INSTRUMENT PRICED FAR BELOW IT'S VALUE.

Now, having made the pitch, let me say that I agree with Dave. Posts tend to go where they go. I wouldn't be worried about it. If Serge wants to bring it back, he can. Besides, if you want disrespectful, you should see my emails back and forth with Serge ("Lem").
Don't worry. The right person's going to read this thread and snap up Serge's guitar. The rest of us will just enjoy the thread and maybe learn something. |

I've got repect for everybody and i sincerly want to apologize to sergio if my posts disturb his sale.
I'm just sure about one thing. The Adamas II is really a great instrument. I own one model and it's the greatest guitar i've ever owned!!
So, if someone still hesitate to buy Sergio's beauty, you don't have to!! You will never regret. To be the owner of an Adamas and to hold it in your arms is really a great and special emotion. For me, it's always the same emotion each day!!
You MUST buy this guitar!!!

Thanks for your concerns, input and opinions.
This is a great club and we are all in this together; our love for Ovation and Adamas guitars. So I take it as if we are just talking back and forth about this model, the Adamas cutaway.
Now, how about someone buy this great guitar?!
  ;)

Now no disrespect intended but let me wander again.
Jerome, It would be very interesting to us here if you could find out if Marcel's slotheads are still with the family or where they have wandered off to. He had some early prototypes and many custom pieces and also at least one between #27 and 60(these are the ones I'm interested in you finding out about if you can)
Now back to our regular program and won't somebody buy Serge's great guitar???? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Well, no actually I heard that Serge had to discount the guitar significantly because of his ownership. Rumor is that the guitar was kept hanging on Serge's wall next to some "wooden box guitars" and probably the Adamas got contaminated in the process (ha ha).
The ironic thing is that I just bought the exact same guitar about 3 weeks ago. Had I known I would have gladly preferred to buy Serge's but that's OK. Hate to keep saying it but it's a really great guitar. Prompted me to sell off a SS SMT that isn't even in the same league. In the end everyone is happy. |

Very happy for both.
Now, i feel free to give a reply about Marcel Dadi's guitars.
I'll be glad to find informations about these guitars. Jean Felix Lalanne (one of the greatest french guitar player and probably of the world) has owned some of Marcel's guitars. I'm not sure but i think that the new owner of the Black Adamas prototype is Francis his brother (a french singer... Nothing more to say about Francis... )
The orange one is own today by my friends Patrick & David Wagner (very good amateur guitar players).
All the others guitars are in private collections. Just one is missing in the inventory!! I think its a 12 strings Adamas I in a yellow color. Perhaps have you heard before about this guitar??? Does anyone knows where's this babe now???
I'm gonna ask to some of my friends here to have some pictures of these incredible pieces of Ovation's history.
I don't know if everybody know who is the late Marcel Dadi but if you don't know, you miss a part of the music history. If you love "finger's picking", Marcel was one of the greatest guitar player of this style in the world. He also was one of the greatest creator of new technics and guitar's method.
I recommend to all of you to buy the " 1988 Olympia performence' DVD. This is a great show and you'll be able to see unique Marcel's Adamas & Ovation.
Marcel is dead in 1996 in the crash of the TWA flight. He was only 45 and so much things to do!!Very sad news for lots of people and today, i miss him & his music.
It's the first time i write a so long message but i've got a lot of things to say. I really hope you will understand my poor English (i'm better in french...).

| yeah, serge is definitely a nice & generous guy =) dave is correct, his SS SMT isn't in the same league as this texture top SS. this guitar is worth at least 2x the SS SMT, but was sold for less. if i didn't have so many adamas/ovation, i would have bought it. |

Location: Paris/France | Ok, i've got more informations about Marcel's guitars from my friend David from the french Guitar Picker's Association
I translate from french:
- The Adamas "lilas" (lilac flower color) is in Alsace (east of France)in a private collection
- The Adamas "yellow lemon" is in the south/west of France in a private collection too
- The white Adamas I is also in the same area in a private collection
- The Adamas "Ivory" (the sister of the orange one) is probably in Italy
- The Adamas prototype is well in Francis Lalanne's home.
- The Adamas slothead #37 belong to Jean Felix Lalanne
- David don't know where are Marcel's 1614 & Country Artist
- And finally, Marcel has own a 12 strings "green" Adamas (but a really green one!! Green like a frog... If you can see what a french guy mean...JOKE). This guitar was sold long years ago and it's probable that the actual owner don't know the history of this instrument!!! Do you have a green 12 strings in your collection???????
Dominique Filhon (a member of the GPA) make research at this time to find more informations about Marcel's guitar. David or I will send you more news as soon as possible.
Many Thanks to my friend David Wagner for his help.

It's a bit of a mongrel to be honest - when Hofner stopped making / importing to UK, there was a stack of (late, florentine cutaway) bodies and necks left hanging around the factory.
Someone - I've never found out who - slapped them together with fairly basic hardware and leaked them out over the tail end of the seventies.
I bought it at a car boot sale (yard sale?) for pennies, and I'm still in the process of bringing it up to a giggable standard (new klusons, lindey fralin p-90's).
So yeah, it's a mongrel - but it bites... |
