Queens didn't break up, Nick Oliveri is kicked out though. And Mark Lanegan left the band to focus on his solo stuff. Doesn't matter anyway. Josh was the best vocalist and Josh actually played all the bass lines on the first album. He's the real genius behind the band.

If you follow the QOTSA "Family Tree" since 1988, there has been a somewhat revolving door on musicians.

Pretty quiet so far, but the auction still has plenty of time. I've had a couple GP's and sold one. Still considering selling my original sunburst so I like watching what they are going for.

It must have been weird coincidence that I spotted the auction only a few minutes after you listed it. Good luck.

I want that guitar, soooo badly but I can't afford it until my insurance company pay me a nice payout that they have owed me for about a month now.

I hope I get it in time, otherwise someone else who owns one better sell it, or else, I might have to.. get really angry and sit in the corner for a while.

Hey Dusty, I'm surprised to see nobody picked up your GP. Email me and we might be able to work something out. That's a big might. joshschiel@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Josh

Oh and FYI - Word that's gotten around to me is Ovation is considering GP and Breadwinner reissues possibly for later this year...

No it's real, I have the email from the Ovation rep sitting in my mailbox. All he said was that they were considering the reissue, possibly for later this year. And they were also looking at the original Breadwinner, too. I didn't get any details more specific than that.

If this is true I image it would be built by Hamer. Dave

If it's true of course they will be built by Hamer, but so what, they make GREAT guitars. All that really means anyway is that it's assembled on the detail shop 2nd floor instead of the other side of the factory. No big deal.

Bill - I didn't mean Hamer as a bad thing at all. Given the choice between Ovation who haven't made a decent solidbody guitar in how many years? (ever?) and Hamer, who builds some great stuff - it's a no brainer. Frankly I don't see why everyone's popping stiffies over the GP. It's nice, but you can buy a Hamer that's way better for the same price as the GP's are fetching. Last year I asked Jol if they could build a Hamer for me with an Ovation peghead. I think the question really pissed him off. But when you think of it - wouldn't that be a really cool guitar? So maybe that's what the rumored re-issue is all about. I don't think a re-issue Bwiener will ever sell. The originals barely get $400-500 on eBay. No market for it. Dave

It would be interesting. To make a guitar like the GP today, would cost as was stated as much as a Hamer so not sure a new one would have the "ciche" factor that the original has. Same problem with the Breadwinner, although an import version of either would probably bring them into a better price range and still be able to maintain the quality. Difficult choise and risk. I actually think a new Breadwinner has a better chance these days as there seems to be a resurge of odd shpaed guitars over the past year.

well I think it's like every time a great guitar gets a reissue, look at gibson, they all stopped the production after one or two years. ok everybody got then the gp he wants but it'll never have the nimbus of the original.

If Hamer makes them they will be great guitas. I just don't see how in the breadwinner's case you can sell one made in the USA at $1500-1800 retail which is what it wouid take to get one made by Hamer.

The GP is a little easier, they were imports already so you just get them made and sell them at a 800 price point. The Hamer imports are high quality and if they are made in the same place the GP's would be just as good. If it were me I would NOT introduce them as they were originally but introduce them as the Josh Homme model with his mods. But what the hell do I know I just sell gear for a living.

I have it from a reliable source that there is no real plan for the Ultra HardBody line. There are a few Breadwinner prototypes that the AR guys may "shop around" for feedback. If something is decided on that front, it probably won't happen until the fall.

Dave, I agree with you, I don't get it why this is creating this much attention. Must be Josh is that good? (I've never heard him)
The problem with the reissues is that as soon as the 14 people who are constantly whining about bringing it back have theirs, demand is dead. This is true for any of these things, the GP, breadedweinners and the lot. They can't really be seriously thinking about the weinner again. Well I suppose they could, exploring new depths and all that.......

Marketing 101: The best way to convince yourself and your customers that it wasn't really a mistake the first time around is to try it again. I just can't image Kaman having one division (Ovation) introduce a guitar that would compete for market share with another division (Hamer). Oh, wait a minute. Didn't they just come out with the tube pre-amp in the Takamine line? Get plugged in with an Ovation, but if you really want the newest tube PA here's a Takamine. Go figure. Dave

No doubt the demand isn't a lot of people for the GP. Right now, it's enough to drive the price up. But think about it. If you actually put out a quality product like that, it should create it's own demand. These guitars are still widely unknown. You can go up to plenty of guys who've played guitar for 20 years and tell them about the Ovation GP and they will tell you they never heard of it let alone any Ovation Solid Body. The only people who know about it are Ovation fanatics and Josh Homme fans. Just think about what these could do if you actually had one sitting in every guitar center across the U.S. Anyone who picks it up and plays it would acknowledge its supremecy and spread the word. Instead, there are few and far between. And pretty much anyone that has one isn't giving theirs up any time soon. Everyone else is selling them on the net. Not many people who don't own these babies are ever gonna get a chance to play them.

I'm just saying, if you mass produced this guitar, you could generate it's own demand based on the fact that it is one of the best guitars out there.

well I don't know if there's really a demand for it. In fact ovation would have to deal with the same problems fender got with its jag-stang. this is also a real good guitar but many guitarists don't want to own one in fact they'll be reduced to the music of kurt cobain and nobody wants to hear "hey look here comes the kurt look a like, we're hearing grunge now" on the other hand the ones who didn't care are searching for a vintage one from '84 in fact that dimarzio isn't producing the super 2's anymore.

I own 2 guitars with that marvelous pu's and would never sell 'em. I'm searching for a black gp for one and a half years now, and hell, if I've got the possibility to buy a new one I wouldn't do if these pu's are not included ;)

OK guys, but looking at the pic supersized, it appears that the bridge could be original, but it looks like the guy might have installed it incorrectly. (ie. upside down) What do you think?

well, dusty, this could also be a possibility, but I can't see the screws for adjusting the bridge, that's another minus ;)

but nevertheless, it's a nice guitar. If I'd have the cash I'd buy it.

but what is also funny is, that the price for a gp lowered. ickygoo sold one of his for 2150, the last left for 1800 ( surely it wasn't in mint condition) and now it seems that this black one is too expensive for 1799. perhaps we'll get old prices for them like 1450 or so.

I noticed there isn't much tolerance for any flaws on these. I guess when a $500 guitar is selling for 1700+ the buyers aren't looking for anything less than near mint or better. Of the ones I've bought and sold in the past couple of years most have been like new or at least 9+. It sure is interesting to watch these.
