Location: montreal | dude, price is a foregone conclusion ever since those dumb-ass qotsa fans decided to drive the price through the roof because josh has one. now I am a huge kyuss/qotsa fan but come on! the GP aint worth 1500$, and never should be either. Trust me if you want one you better be willing to pay out loads of dough they are all going for at least 1300$ lately. |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | I got news for ya..The price of these guitars was over $1400 even before the "queens of the stone age" caught on..Even Joshe Homme paid $1500 for his two GP's...I know this for a fact because i sold him his two GP's three to four years ago....So, the price of these guitars was already up on these guitars before Joshe made them sought after... |

Location: montreal | I am no expert But I saw them going on e-bay for no more than 750$, hell I got mine for 500$ (dont ask me how either, I was meant to have it I suppose ;) ). I remember them specifically as I was searching for one at the time. some 7-8 of the went for that price around 2.5 years ago. I am not disputing what you are saying in the least however, I have moniterd this closely for the last 5 years and I have seen a dramatic hike in the prices in the last year or two with most of the sales pitches involving the words qotsa and josh in them. |

In the last 5 years I had the opportunity to buy 3 and I didn't buy two of them because they were a little over 600, and I finally bought mine for 525ish as I recall about 3 years ago. I had seen them in the 700 range on eBay but already had one. WHen Josh played the tonight show gig they sky-rocketed. I'm sure once the fad is over, they will be back to normal. They are a nice guitar, but not THAT nice.

Location: montreal | Once again I am not saying anybody is worng, I am only posting what I have seen in the recent past as far as prices and how thet have changed...from my circle that is. I bought mine two years ago for 455$, so I can't see that they were so expensive at the time, but price may be a product of the region.
who knows.
If I had the money I would spend 1500$ on them, but right now I don't, but soon I will. I just think it sucks that we have to pay out that much cashbecause of wannabe's. Hell GP's were like our little secret, the world was oblivious to them and that is how I liked it....call me greedy I guess. |

I don't know how long they will stay in this range, but I do know I'm kinda sorry I sold mine at any price. It's a rock'n guitar. |

Location: PA | I got my GP for about $250 long ago, and had considered selling it about 3 years ago when my finances were in the toilet. I had it up for sale in the local paper, on Harmony Central and on consignment at a music shop. My asking price: $200. I got no takers, and the shop owner made me take it out of his shop because he thought it was a fake (I had no official info at that time).
my finances are much better these days, so no the $200 price no longer stands. |

Location: Norway | I bought my ovation ultra seven years ago and paid 700$. The price now is up to 1500$ but they are hard to find, so i think the price is quite different from whos selling it. Mine goes for no less than 3000$. I dont think anyones going to buy it for that amount of money, but somehow that is what i want. It is a beautifull gitar no worth selling. |

Location: Australia | Ok, you are all probably sick of hearing about kyuss and qotsa, but i also am a fan and i recxently found out what kinda guitar it is, i've been searching around all over the internet for it and found it in an interview on a dodgey kyuss site, back in 94/95 something like that he said he was looking for a guitar that would handle being tuned down to c blah blah blah. He said the first one he bought was for 199 bucks from small guitar shop somewhere. before the start of an early tour.

Josh bought the guitar from a pawn shop in Idaho when he was 11. They only had two stringed instruments, the GP and a banjo. He went with the guitar. Over time he found it was a great guitar for holding the 'C' tuning. In 94/95 Kyuss was finishing their last album and then breaking up.

It's not that I play it that much, but it's just a fun guitar to play when I do. I also have it ready in the studio in case someone needs a "rocker" and an introduction to Ovation solidbodies. |

Went to a super cool guy that I'm still in touch with so, I'm glad it found a new home. Then I found a wine one and bought that (from excey here on the board). My goal was to have one in each color. The irony being that now the only color I don't have is honeyburst. |

Location: Atlanta,Ga. | As luck would have it, i walked into Guitar Center just to see whats new and just to kill a few lazy sunday moments and guess what i found..Well, i walk in the store and go and stop in front of a double rack of used guitars..One of the salesman see's me and is walking towards me with a grin on his face..He walks up and says ,what do you think of the ovation solid body and points behind me(i never saw it)..I turn and look,its a ultra GP that i totally missed..He asks me what is it? what model? Ickygoo, yes I bought the GP from Future, as far as the 'apples and oranges comment, I definately prefer the fuller sound of a Les Paul, or a guitar similar to it over a Strat, I hope that this comment will clear that up for you. |

Location: texas | does anyone have any pics of one. i have an ultra gs that i bought new in 80s. i dont know if it is what your looking for. i bought it to learn to play on and i still have it. it has the kahler tremelo and locking system. i love the guitar and still play it. i havent got a clue as to what it is worth, i have only seen one other in this area and it was the one my guitar teacher bought when i bought mine. take care. |

Go to the members gallery and look under my photos (ickygoo). I have 3 of my GP's in a photo. The GP was a set neck guitar. Much like a Les Paul only the body is wider and longer with a 2nd cutaway. The GS is a more common solidbody of the era. It was a bolt on strat copy. GP stood for Guitar Paul. GS stood for Guitar Strat. GS's are worth between $100 - $300 usually. GP's are high in demand because of Josh Homme of Kyuss / QOTSA. He brought them to everyone's attention. |

Location: PA | I'm sitting at home right now with a big grin on my face. I just walked out of my local music shop with a Black GP1....for under $300. It's not in the greatest condition, but it plays great and sounds great, looks real nice next to my sunburst model too.
Any one who is searching for one of these....keep your eyes peeled!! They do pop up every once in awhile. I almost walked out of the store with out seeing it, before I heard someone mutter "Ovation Solid-body??? eeeessh!". At that point I walked over, picked it up and said "I'll take it!"
The Sunburst model I found at a yard-sale for $250....but that was back in 1989. |
