Single vs double coils. Preferences? Are the single coils more sought after?

The reason I'm asking is that I have an opportunity to own a newer model without actually having to pay for it for now. I'll have to pay eventually though and the price is a bit steep. I know I've seen them go for over $1k, but are those prices for the older single coil guitars?

Input greatly appreciated.

Damon, I'm not sure that the pups necessarily make a difference to the value......I think it is more about the condition of the guitar.

As to what is better I can't really comment not being an electric player.

It makes sense to think that the humbuckers were/are an improvement.

I'm sure someone like Miles would have done a sound comparison.

Yep, overall condition. Should be very very good to be worth $1K or more. Make sure that the preamp is intact and working smoothly and quietly, including those little adjustment pots on the back.

If you don't like the pickups/preamp you can always get another pickguard and put whatever you like in it while preserving the original.
