I have 5 guitars:
2-acoustics and 3 electrics
I'd like to get a multi-guitar stand that would hold them in either their cases or just as a stand-alone...
any recommendations?

later....

I have been thinking about this as well, of late...

Was contemplating taking a couple of USS aluminum keyboard stands and adapting them into some type of guitar (case?) rack (on wheels).

Would also be interested to hear what people are using... Maybe something is commercially available that is just the ticket... without having to do a whole lot of cutting and sanding. :D

Something like this?

or this?

Both of those can be had from musiciansfriend.com
Hercules also makes a nice 3-guitar stand (I have one) but it won't accommodate a case.

I guess so!
Although I think I like the other stand pictured better anyway. About 6 of those would be good for an OFC gathering.

I, too, really like the looks and heavy duty nature of the Road Runner flight case set-up, but then I think, when would I ever use it? I have a Herc triple that I've used once in three years. If I needed space for more than three, I'd add singles, of which I have plenty. But, then again, that case sure looks cool, and for $99? Its almost a no-brainer even if I can't think of a reason why I'd need it. I could remove the stand and use the case for a larger pedal board, I guess.

I have the flight case one. I haven't used it for acoustics, but it should work fine. You can adjust the bottom divider thingies to wherever you want them to be.

Our lead guitarist at church uses one of the "flight case" stands, and it works very well on stage with acoustics and electrics.

BTW, nice pic Damon!

I have the 7-slot version of each of the ones G8r posted above. Both serve the purpose, they hold 7 electrics, or 4 deep-bowls or a combination…

The Proline has a rubbery non-slip bar on the bottom, so no adjustments are necessary regardless of how you combine acoustics/electrics. It folds simply, too, so it's easy to move around your studio/mancave/doghouse. It's great for one location, and it's pretty solid (once you assemble it correctly) but I don't think it would travel very well. It folds relatively flat, but not as compact as the flight-case. It is pretty sturdy, yet I don't think it would survive too many trips in a truck/van/hearse/car-trunk.

The flight case seems higher-quality, sturdier and more convenient when folded. I think it's a better choice for gigs/travel, since it folds into itself to form a case about the size of a rectangular electric-guitar case. You adjust velcro-covered "bars" on the base for different width guitars (which keeps the guitars from sliding around and/or bumping each other.) It's a little more work to set-up and break down, but it's better-designed to survive travel when folded.

Both of them have thick, soft, rubber-like coverings over the upper bars that separate the necks. Supposedly, _some_ guitar finishes can react with that rubber stuff if left in contact for prolonged periods. (If you know what a "worm-proof" tackle box is, you understand that potential problem.)

I also recently saw one similar to the Proline but with lockable casters so it can be rolled around. Sorry, I don't remember the brand name.

Kevin, regardless of which you choose, your "2 acoustics and 3 electrics" will probably require the 7-guitar size, unless your acoustics are both super-shallow bowls. Even then, I'd personally prefer to have more space between guitars to make it less likely that I'll accidentally bang them together during a quick swap (or to leave room for aquisitions…) ;)

As for holding the guitars "in their cases," none of the above are designed for that purpose, I think many folks here, (if they have one at all,) have built their own racks for that purpose, depending on where they need to store them. You should be able to find some examples with a search, I remember seeing photos of some home-made racks somewhere in the archives in the last couple of years.

Hope that helps…

I'll say sure on this one. You have an open invite. 3 of these are no longer with me (Legend 12, Elite LX Sunburst, and PF22), but others have popped up since including a Anniversary Legend like yours. Personally I think it's the loudest O I have.

Hahahahaha ha ha ha hahaha ha! Absolutely no freekin way! That's the Al DiMeola! It's #1, and the one that gets played mostly live.

As for the stand, I bought used it locally for about $75. It wasn't the best price probably, but it was money well spent.
