Location: Flahdaw | Okay, this is a weird one. I was messing around with strange tunings this weekend and in the process came up with this. In a strange way, I kinda like it. I can hear it with a good bass line, some harmony on the chorus, a tasteful bit of lead guitar....Then again, it could go in the video trash can.
I have a VERY thick skin. Tell me what you all think.

I should have phrased my question better....
Do you think this song works done acoustically in this kinda minor/ alt tuning, or is just a little too slow and weird? In other words, would this work at an open mic, or would I lose the audience? |

Location: Warren,Pa. | I remember when I first heard Eric Clapton do Layla "unplugged", and how I enjoyed it a hundred times more than the original. I also remember Jose Feliciano doing his empassioned version of Light My Fire...and how it just burried the Doors version. That's how this makes me feel. Feels a little bit like David Crosby's late '60's/early '70's work. |

You sing very well and made this song your own. It's a recognizable song, then the personal cover would win an audience over.
Well done again and nice shirt. |

I also think that the slow delivery showcases your singing as it floats over the open chords... something only really possible on a nice acoustic. Bravo! |

I agree that it kinda has that David Crosby 60/70s vibe.
If I heard you at an open mic I would hang around and listen to another. |

| Better shirt.
I really like this in the minor tonality, it's one of those covers that's better than the original. Most definitely keep in the playlist. Great job. |

Someone mentioned the acoustic version of Layla.. If anyone besides Clapton would have committed that blaspheme, they would have been drawn, quartered and hung out to dry. I realize I may be in the minority on this, but I consider Layla 2.0 one of the worst covers of a classic I have ever heard, by anyone. It's right up there with making a movie with a lizard-esque monster in New York and calling it Godzilla. It's just wrong. |

You have a very nice voice.
It's not too "slow or weird" at all. Carbon-copy covers are a dime-a-dozen, creative re-interpretations are much more impressive when done well, and you nailed it.
I also agree with the comments about the Crosby-esque sound. (That's a good thing, IMO.) The tuning you used gives it that feel.
Bravo.
I'm with Miles, Layla 1.0 should have remained untouched instead of unplugged. We're not alone; I recall reading a quote from Pete Townsend which I would paraphrase as "If I have to hear that *&$# skiffle-version of Layla one more time I will pull my hair out." (He must have heard it again, his hair is gone now…) ;)

PS: Dark Bar, what geetar is that and what tuning did you use? |

db, you own that song now, GREAT interpretation. |

| Tuning is EADGAD I was gonna say it almost sounded like Dsus4 tuning, but that low E threw me off.
After we're done with the move & I have my new man cave/studio set up, you'll need to come up and we'll record it. |

Location: Flahdaw | Well, it's not really EADGAD cause the guitar is already tuned 2 steps down, THEN the 1st and 2nd strings are dropped again. hehehe (can you say loose and jangley) |
