Hint #1:
The 1658 stands for the NOS Neck; the "X" because it's a "Special:"
Twelve strings, lotsa nice flame on the neck!:
Carved ebony bridge:
Celtic Knot soundhole like 09C:
Oh - and it's a PARLOR!!!:
And it has no right to sound as good as it does!
I'm ecstatic, and must offer the best Kudos to John and Mike (who signed the label for me) at the Mothership! |

I hoped that the result would be the ultimate "couch guitar" 12-string (as Mike at Ovation termed it). I expected the overall tone to be a bit top-heavy - a sort of "tenor" 12-string. I'm quite pleased because the overall spectrum/balance is fabulous. It also has an Op-Pro Studio, so it goes without saying that when it's plugged in it gives nothing away to the big bowls. The folks at the factory were just as surprised as I that the little parlor body could carry it off.

Location: Budd Lake, NJ | Drat! That's the second keyboard I've potentially ruined in the last two weeks (I simply must remember to get a dribble bib)...really, it's beyond beautiful.
My question is, where do you keep getting the parlor bowls? (If I could, my ultimate Adamas would be a parlor......)

| I guess it is just personal taste but I have always found I liked the biggest bowled 12 strings I can find for overall sound. Had a 1688 I neve should have sold and I know now this was most likly the best sounding 12 string guitar ever made by any company "EVER". I have to admit though this 12 string is so cool, I really do want to hear what it sounds like by having someone else play it while I stand in front and then I'd like to try it myself.
Nice job on having something a little different made. Sure does have a way of keeping your eye for a while. I caught myself looking longer than normal. ! |

No doubt that this one will stay as one of the nicest 12 string from New Hartford!!
The specs you choose are among the best to my eyes and the final result looks fantastic.
I wish that you will let us hear the sound of this beauty pretty soon... ;)

Wow, that's beautiful! The Mini-Martin I recently traded was a parlor or "terz" guitar that I bought to be the ultimate recliner guitar, which it was. It was designed to be tuned 3 1/2 steps up, so its pitch was naturally a bit higher (you could tune it standard, but the strings didn't have enough tension and didn't feel right). It had a very distinctive sound and was best suited as an accompaniment instrument. Do you see your new parlor as a stand alone guitar or more of a specialty instrument? Also, my parlor had a small neck, is your 12 string 1 7/8”? Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures. That should end up in a book of “Ovation Guitar Masterpieces.” |
