I've only sold one.
It was just little "trekker" model so that might not event count. No regets.
However, just in the last couple hours, I've hatched a plot that would require me to move a "real" Ovation.

Only short term (like weeks at the most).

Over the long haul "NO" because I never sold any of the ones I routinely played.

There might be a couple I miss but never any I regret selling.

A couple... but, like Stephen, only for a short while. Whatever regret I had was offset knowing that an OFC member adopted a fine guitar and it's in good hands.

Most of my regrets are from not pullin' the trigger on some wonderful offers here. Sa la vie...

Have moved a lot of guitars around, some real nice ones too. Only three that still bother me from time to time. Never should have let my 1688-7 go, but It went to a female member of the OFC so this is good.
I also had a fantastic, super early production number, 4080, Double Neck Rickenbacker I miss very much.
And I had Al have the Hamer Factory build me a copy of Jack Blades, very cool, 8 string bass. YA just don't sell the customs.

+1000 on that.

If I Ever HAD to sell my twin 2080D longnecks or my Baxendale Slothead 12 fret 12 string I would definitely cry over those and miss them a lot.

One offs are very special!

I had a 1985 Collector's which I had bought new. I sold it when my hand problems got so bad that it didn't look like I'd play guitar again. I had had it for over ten years, and losing it, and the ability to play, was devastating.

It took about 8 years for my hands to start coming back, and I could even think about playing guitar again. Because of the time gap, I don't think it would have been realistic to hold onto the instrument "just in case."

I'd pick up another in a heartbeat if I ran across one in the same minty shape mine was in. Just mentioning it, in case any of you have one you're thinking of releasing into the wild....

I had seller's remorse over the 99 Collector's for quite awhile, but it might have been mixed with the guilt from buying the K1111, Patriot and Duotone shortly after.
I really like the sound and playability of the Patriot, but Michelle really needs it and the money will feed a Haitian orphan for a year, so I think we both feel good about it.

Well, no. I HAVE sold quite a few through the shop, but they were either duplicates of something I already had, or just didn't do it for me the way the ones I already own do. I sort of wish I still had the Tornado, the Matrix, and the Balladeer my Dad gave me, but that's more for sentimental reasons. I don't even remember who wound up with the Tornado and the Matrix, but I gave the Balladeer to my ex (the one who's still alive!) so I know it's in great hands, and heck, he loved my Dad too, so it's OK.

Never sold one. I did sell a Yamaha 12 string back in 1978 to my brother's wife, then used the proceeds for airfare to interview for a position which I subsequently accepted and have held ever since. Nope, I sure don't regret selling that one.

I sold a couple of nylon strings that I don't regret. I sold my shiny bowl DB and GCDB and don't regret those (they weren't being played and the money went to good causes). But the one I regret is the Thunderhead. I sold it because I felt broke and needed the money (sucky reason for selling a guitar). But the person who bought it is holding it for me and I'll get it back.

Outside of that one, nope. No regrets.....

I gave away my 1117 legend and regret that - I had really bonded with that guitar. However my nephew plays the bejeezus out of it (yes he's now way better than me) and I have visitation rights. Babysitting AJ's 1619 custom legend of the same era helps. Don't regret selling my Adamas W597 to buy the 08C.

I was soooo glad I didn't...

I was going to sell my GCS-771C. (Cedar Top)
Then picked it up and played it one day and realized it's one of the best sounding Ovations ever made. And still sounds MUCH better, --three years after buying it new...

For what I could have sold it for, it would have been like throwing it in the dumpster... That one isn't leaving the collection.

I thought about this some more.

My only actual regrets from selling Ovation guitars are the couple of "wonderful" members who screwed me over by disappearing and never paying me the thousands owed on several guitars.

Guess that's what family is all about....(and why I no longer extend free trials or credit to most).

Well, the Lifeguard ain't always watch'in this family's gene-pool Stephen. You have certainly had your trials.
Rest assured that I will continue to buy high and sell low so hang in there.

I regret selling every guitar I've ever sold! But I'm just having too much fun with the next one (etc.) that its hard to stop.

Stephen, if I may call you that, please let's be clear here Mr. Terry, as my brother Glenn is not one of those and his debt to you is and has been paid in full. I am not saying what he did to you was right, but he did make up for it, and pay you in full and you gave him your word all was good between you and you had forgiven him.

I should have clarified that the only Ovation I currently have in my possession is the one given to me by my brother Glenn many years ago, it is still technically his and is a very nice 71 Balladeer with a hand laid bowl and under-saddle aftermarket pickup and endpin out jack. It was the guitar that brought him to your forum many years ago.

On the other hand he has now sold every guitar he owns or has owned taking care of his wife/family/home and is working at a 7-11 on graveyard shift to keep them afloat (don't laugh we literally have rocket scientists and aeronautical engineers here flipping burgers for a living as nothing else is available.) not one of the guitars sold was ever criticized as mis-represented or as not as described or a "bad deal" by one of your members... and he sold some stellar examples of Ovation craftsmanship at quite a loss...

2 very considerate and kind members have given him use of loaners and he is grateful for their kindness and generosity and has even upgraded them with custom wooden tuner buttons and carved TRC's and even an Optima upgrade on one as a thank you for whenever they decide they want them back... they are loved, polished, cared for, and played daily.

on the other hand he also has lost a LOT of money and a couple of guitars to some "wonderful" members here and given away enough parts, (hundreds of dollars worth) to assemble 3 or 4 complete electrics... the parts were mostly used, but included some NOS parts/components(some rare) from Miles as well, necks, bodies, filtertron pickups, viper pickups, gibson mini humbuckers, storm pickups, Ovation 3-point supports and pickup rings, tuning machines, vintage bridges, Schaller Ovation gold bridges, Schaller fine tuning bridges, OEM Wilkinson roller nuts, pots, nuts, vintage switchcraft switches, screws, transducers, preamps, battery boxes, abalone blanks for inlay, ebony bridge blanks, and ebony headplate stock... and much other assorted hardware and original Ovation equipment pieces and vintage bakelite switch knobs. some from the 20's 30's and 40's

he was assured a guitar would be built for him from some of the parts, or the Folklore would be repaired or at least made playable.... and sent back to him... That is now over 4 years ago... he lost $300 on the vintage legend to another member now banned from the site, and $400 on the mis-represented folklore with the warped and twisted neck from another member here still "in good standing".

Glenn is no longer welcome here, but I and his son are still both members here and read all that is continued to be posted about him to include the ridicule and derision on the Ning site in the Blogs of Paul Moody and Tuppy/Dave Witkowski..... in "what's your favorite locked Thread blog"... initiated by your resident PI...

my brother does have ADD and Bi-Polar disorder, is on medication for them, sees his therapist and Dr. regularly... he did have emotional and drug problems for years... but has been Drug and Alcohol free since his wife's heart attack nearly 5 years ago... and has also quit smoking.

All he cares for is his wife Charlotte, his 5,(soon 6) grandchildren, and his music, they are what's important in his life and give him joy and fulfillment.

all I and his son Glenn Jr. see from some of you is joy and glee and sick humor in his possibly committing suicide,('going Hussein on a shower rod" as Gallerinski said) his and their continued misfortunes, and wishing of an early demise on his wife.

in addition to not following through on many of your promises of completed projects, guitars, or repairs for him.

I guess it was just easier to Ban Him from here and the Ning Site, and forget about the rest of it all.... some of you made a pretty good profit off of him... including the list owners and moderators. from both of whom he purchsed many new parts, NOS items, Guitars, and amplifiers.

members of the BFLG have boxes of parts from him and did well for themselves as well... with no reciprocation or follow through on their assurances or offers of repairs or building of a guitar for him from some of the parts he donated to the cause.

Waskel, He never met you, but enjoys your music, and hopes that the "gift" guitar is everything you hoped it to be. He Knew how much you didn't want to put it down when it was introduced at the factory tour, and was glad he could help in fulfilling your dream for one.

To Johnny C, Jim C, Music Mike, Kurt Roddy, DVD, Chris Seesquared, Chatman, Samova, Al Segen, Alison, Dave King, Jerome, Guigite, Mike Lobowski, John Dennis, Jason, Tony, Noah, G8r, Rodney, Larry C., and all the others that still call him friend and pray and have well wishes for him and his wife... he says thank you!!

To all the rest of you who don't know him, never met him, and have formed your opinions based on rumor, innuendo, lies, and slander from others who also have never physically met with, spoken to, or dealt with him either.

Shame on You! He always did whatever was asked of him here, was always willing to do his best to help a fellow brother or sister member out, and went out of his way to do so... even if it wasn't within his financial means to do so.

This forum was his greatest distraction and happy place while his whole world was falling apart, his home destroyed, and while his wife was dying along with many of their friends dying sudden, unexpected and horrific deaths.

Too many of you reveled in tearing it away from him, and ripping him apart piece by piece most often at his lowest points and when things were at their darkest for him.

To those of you, May you Reap what you have sown. and the evils you have perpetrated come back upon you 3-fold

Karma's a Bitch... I hope you all live to see it come around to you and treat you as well as you have treated him.

Respectfully,

Michael James Hess
