72" in DC? 60+" in Philly? These are incredible one-week totals. Snowfall records have been broken all along the east coast and there's more in the forecast. Makes Denver look like Phoenix. Hope all our OFC friends are doing o.k.

It's been stunningly beautiful here in the hills... but, a lot of work getting out from under it. I'm still snowshoeing to my vehicle near the main road.

Beni's of living on the coast with the ocean influence...we only received 9" on the first round, 2" on the second and a dusting that's already disappearing yesterday.

We've got a little over a foot, having missed out on the big blast last weekend. But, the drifting has made accumulations quite a bit deeper here and there. Still, not complaining--main roads were just passable when I crawled home from work yesterday afternoon (an hour to go about 20 miles, without a plow in sight on the main highway I need to take, though.)
Hope everyone else is doing o.k......

After a week of digging, 4 rounds and about 3 ft of snow in the last two days, I am tired. Since last night, the State plows haven't even come through yet.

But... at least we are dug out and melting.

This just in!....
In a last minute change of heart, the International Olympic Committee has announced this years winter games will be moved to the American Eastern Seaboard due to the abundance of snow.

Planes are in the air moving competitors as an advance team looks for appropriate hills on which to hold events.

The entire country of Canada was heard the heave a sigh of relief as this will mean Celine Dion will not be returning to sing at the opening ceremonies.

We received 18 inches of snow in this last blast added to the 9 inches from last weekend.

Living in a mountain town with only about 2% of population having off-street parking, it's posed quite a challenge. Fortunately, I'm among the 2% with a garage in which to park. It will be another day or two before businesses will be fully back up and operational.

Here in Md just northeast of Baltimore City it's bad. Having just had back surgery, I can't shovel all this lovely white stuff and I feel bad for my SO. In the past week we have had almost 50 inches, I'll never see this again in my lifetime. As beautiful as it was/is, it was/is a bit scarey.

16 - 18 inches in the first one...8 inches in the second...and 18 - 24 in this last blast...I have pictures of the drifting onto the front of my house...I have a huge drift on my back deck and another similar on my front deck...the folks who have lived here all their lives say they have not seen such snow in 35 yrs at least...and more coming Sat - Wed next week....the hospital where SWMBO works has been trucking the plowed snow to several sites outside the town...it reminds me of the midwest in '78, '79, '80...rumor is the state is running out of treatment for the highways...I plan to leave a day early and get a motel room so I will not have to drive at 5 am in the snow the day of my surgery....it's wild here in the SW VA mountains...

I Miss Snow!

I remember surviving the "Blizzard of '78"....

Back then our major concern was that we ran outta Beer!

And the radio was announcing Bars that were open when Hospitals were closed!

Boston mentality... I guess you had to be there.

I feel for you. Sort of. But the lovely Kimby-D and I had a wonderful dinner sitting outside in a sidewalk cafe this evening, here in the gaslamp area of San Diego. We didn't even need coats. But we did have rain, heavy at times, for a couple of days earlier this week. So all of you back east: Batten down the hatches, there's more on the way!

One winter, oh maybe 7 or 8 years ago, we had a lot of snow in Connecticut. No, let me rephrase that, we had even MORE snow than usual. I was driving by a house on the way to work when I saw a set of legs with boots on, and just the blade and about a foot of the handle of a snow shovel sticking up out of a snowbank. They used a pair of sweatpants and must've had a bendable wire in with the stuffing because it looked like the "guy" was kicking. Very realistic looking and pretty funny.

As for the snowman who's been lynched, that's probably the winter equivalent of burning someone in effigy--most likely it's the weatherman... ;) :D
